I don't think that when people say that games or books or whatever are pretentious, they're saying that it's actually putting on airs - I think it comes from a feeling of being locked out of understanding something because of the way it's constructed. The easiest way to communicate that feeling is to describe something as pretentious. Does that make sense?
It's funny. A lot of people use the word pretentious trying to sound smart, when they actually have nothing of value to say. Y'know, the literal definition of the word pretentious.
@alkusanagi: Dan would not feud with Lang. Even if Dan managed to get the upper hand he'd relent and let Lang win. It'd be like that scene in Point Break where Keanu just fires his gun into the air and lets Patrick Swayze escape.
