It's A Great Time To Be A Gamer: Part Three - 2009

After such a stunning year in 2008, you'd think we would have a dry year...not so young one...not so.

List items

  • Naughty Dog knocked it out of the park. Improving on nearly everything it was no surprise that this was for most people the game of the year. Unmatched storytelling and characters. I certainly could not put this one down.

  • The last "good" Batman game I played was on the NES...yup a long time ago. This one came out of no where. I don't even know where to start...it was good, ok? really really really good. Eloquent, I know.

  • AC 1 left a lot of people feeling down and for good reason, it was not what it was supposed to be. AC II was nearly perfect. Better characters, better story, fun and engaging gameplay and combat. Except for the name its hard to believe where it came from. A Masterpiece.

  • Again another sequel that builds on the right things and surpassed its original. This was the peak of the COD series, its never been better, and never would again.

  • Bioware continued to reinvent the classic RPG. The way choice affected their games was always unique even if it didn't mean as much as you might want in the end. The dialog and and depth of the lore made this gritty take on fantasy a gem worth mentioning.

  • its kind of a shock that this game hadn't been made before. 4 person coop shooter, with an RPG leveling leveling system and the pull of loot. you might as well just call it gamer crack. Talk about messing with the reward center of your brain.

  • I really enjoyed the original Red Faction, it was a unique FPS in its day. Even if RF2 was a major disappointment I was looking forward to seeing where thy would go with it...wow I did not expect this. Amazingly fun. The change in perspective was the least of its differences. How it make the destroying things not only fun, but the major way to progress, was inspiring. Blow shit up to continue...Ok sure I can do that!

  • Superhero power fantasy....ok it was more than that. this game had style and was genuinely fun. Besides who didn't want to grow up to be a superhero?

  • I played so much battlefield 1942 growing, Nostalgia alone would have been enough for me. While I was disappoint that it never saw much in the way of new maps, it was a pleasure to go back to a shinier version of my childhood.

  • This game is just cool. write a word and the object appears....need I say more. I loved it then and my kids love it now.
