Dudes, I Ioved Breakdown too! Yes to all of the above. The first Solus fight, yes. nodding. Also loved when every time you launched the game it said "Breakdown" in that creepy voice.

But the reason I suddenly started thinking about it so many years later is that it finally just clicked to me that this game is.. I don't want to say a rip off, but it's just like Half-life. At the time of playing Breakdown I didn't follow the industry or anything, or even have a computer I could have played Half-life on. But at some point years ago I finally did play H-L and, well it still didn't kick in then. But now, like three weeks ago, while I was driving alone I suddenly burst out, "Shit Breakdown was like, as if Half-life was a beat-um-up, and localized from Japan!" The more I think about it the better the theory holds up. It even turns into a terrible platformer on some strange planet or something mid-way through the game. And even the name! Is this why it didn't take the world by storm? Had the reviewers already been there and done that in 1998 but with an excellent gun instead of super fists? I guess I should go find some old reviews..

Still loved my time with this game though, and will continue to cherish those wonderful first person memories.
