Dan's comment that conventional playing cards have no "lore" is a bit funny considering that there is an old tradition of assigning legendary figures to the kings of the suits ( i.e the king of spades represents King David, the king of clubs is Alexander the Great, and so on). Moreover, the whole art of Tarot divination arose from a mundane card game. If something's existed for a while, somebody's probably attached a bizarre significance to it.
