Why im thinking about making my PS3 my main gaming platform.

Wether or not its considered weird for someone to perfer PS3 over 360 these days like it was back in the day (and honestly, it shouldnt be) im honestly considering making my PS3 my main paltform for console gaming going forward. This might be weird to some of you here, sine I think most of the community here are mainly 360 users. My reason for this change being certain factors that have presented themselves as of late:

First a little backstory. I purchased my 360 in Nov. of 2006 for Gears of War. Since then I have enjoyed the console and it has brought me great experiences. I bought my PS3 in June of 2007, and while it was hard to deal with the pests on the internet, I have enjoyed the console and the stuff it gave to me. Over the years I have really felt like I shouldnt like PS3 as much as I do because of what people on the internet keep saying and even jounranlists on certain sites, thats its not as good or that 360 offers better stuff. And honestly majority usualy dictates whats better when it comes to this. But over this year certain things and certain revelations have appeared that really changed my view on certain things.

1. PS3 is really getting more stuff then 360 is in the coming year (atleast as far as we know): Remember back in the day when PS3 had no good games and 360 was getting all the good stuff? Well, this has really balanced out over the years and both consoles are now getting as much good stuff as the other usualy. However, I dont think the same could be said for 360 going into 2011 by the looks of things right now. Right now they only have one big Exclusive coming out, that being Gears 3, plus multiplatform stuff. But thats just it, multiplatform is on other consoles, meaning that dosent help a whole lot with one consoles image going into the new year. PS3 on the other hand is going to get Killzone 3, Infamous 2, Uncharted 3, Resistence 3, LBP 2, and maybe Last Guardian.

2. Multiplatform games these days are about the same on both PS3 and 360 usualy: back in the day we used to see 360 get the better version of a said multiplatform game by a pretty clear cut margin. However, over the years since PS3s launch weve seen the gap shrink in these differences, and now its down to negligable or no difference. So I can now go out and buy pretty much any version of a new multiplatform game on PS3 without worrying itll be messed up. Of course, ill do research before hand to make sure I dont buy a game like Bayonetta on PS3, but really those kind of cases are quite rare these days. And if you look at recent Digital Foundry comparisons youll notice that most comparisons either end in a tie, minute win for one console, or only in a rare instance a clear cut winner on one. I remember I used to make threads all the time worrying about this. This was fueled, honestly, by idiots on the internet that were either fanboys or didnt know what they were talking about and were overblowing stuff on forums and comparison articles. This effected my views on this type of thing, but then I started remembering that usualy when i play the game on PS3 and its supposedly worse on PS3, ususaly I enjoy it plenty fine, so really it dosent ususaly effect any enjoyment I have.

3. Im getting more out of PS Plus then I do out of Live lately: I am not a online gamer really, atleast not lately. I remember back when Gears of War came out and I played and loved that online, but really I tend not to touch multiplayer on any games I play on consoles. Which basicaly eliminates a big selling point of Live to me. So what am I getting out of it if I dont game online hardly ever? Netflicks? I can get that on PS3 with no other subscription needed besides Netflicks. Last FM? hardly use it. Twitter? I perfer that on my computer or on a phone. Early demos? Really, I dont really remember any demos lately that were exclusvie to gold members only for more then a day or two before they came to Silver members. And nowadays we dont really see one service(PSN/Live) get a Demo before the other (atleast, not due to any kind of Exclusive agreement). So why do I have it? Well, because I feel like if I dont I get locked out of stuff I potentialy MIGHT want to do sometime or that MS adds to their console in the future. MS is very keen on locking non paying members out of stuff. So right now im covered until July of 2012 due to a 50 percent off renewal deal, but im not too sure if ill resubscribe after that. Ill see what they have at that point.

4. My 360 I have now is starting to bug out, and I cant afford a new one: My 360 as of late is having these weird issues and errors. Its nothing permenant like a RROD, but its too the point where I dont really wanna do a whole lot on it right now so it has mroe stress on it due to the fact I wanna keep it going for games I own that I really wanna play and Gears 3 next year. And I dont have the money to get a 360S. So that means ill be gaming more on my PS3 anywaym until I can get the 360 replaced.

5. There isnt a whole lot of Exclusive Downloadable third party games anymore: back in the day it was quite common place for Live arcade to get some time exclusive deal with third party downloadable games, but this has really dropped off lately. Usualy the only Exclusives on this front (and on the retail front) are first party. Third party is ususaly on all platforms now. And like I said, we are at the point now where multiplatform stuff is about equal.

6. Ive always kinda liked my PS3 a bit more, but I let idiots on the internet get to me: this is a stupid reason, but for whatever reason it is i have always kinda had a bit better liking of the PS3 then my 360. Although it was hard to in the early days due to the shilacking PS3 got. but now that the console has come into its own, its alot easier liking it and not looking like a fool. And like I said, im teh kinda guy that let other peoples opinons sway mine. Im going to use a example of a IGN editor named Arthur Geis. Now, im not saying that this guy is a bad person or anything, but really he acts like a moron on his podcasts because hes has this stupid hate for SONY. When PS3 slim launched, he basicaly said it was pointless. In recent episodes or Rebel FM, he said that PS3 deals lately have been SONY being scared and panicing, but when MS does it its smart. I dont know why I let his opinons sway mine. maybe because I figured since hes in this industry he knows what hes talking about. But then I realized that hes just a fool that likes to hate on everything and dosent know what hes talking about.

i should say though that im not abandoning my 360 or anything. I will still play Exclusives and games that are like Bayonetta and Red Dead that are really better on it, but I just think im gonna be gaming on my PS3 alot more going into the future.

Not sure if these are good reason or not for switching primary use to one console, but hey there my reasons.

(BTW Mods, feel free to move this to PS3 forums if you see fit. As far as I know theres no way to be very specific where blog posts go.)

I already pay over $70 a month for my cell phone. I don't need another $60 a year to "call" people on Xbox Live.

That's cool I guess.

In the last year or so the PS3 has become my go to console as well. My TV only has one HDMI port and I'm too lazy to switch between the two consoles so I just buy everything for the ps3...

I don't see why you would let Internet opinions influence your choice in main console. It all comes down to personal interests. My 360 is my main console because most of my friends have a 360 and I just prefer Xbox Live over PSN. Of course the funny thing is that I'm starting to focus most of my attention on PC gaming now.

Meh, I had being playing most stuff on the PS3 for the last few months since my old 360 was loud and annoying, now I have a 360s I will maybe buy more stuff for that. Personally I don't really like the Dual Shock (the sticks are in the wrong place and the triggers are rubbish) so for racing games I will always pick the 360, I have friends who are on Live and I have friends who are on PSN both are good networks (although yea, it sucks that you have to pay for Live) the only times I get unstuck is online FPS such as COD.

But yea, if you wanna play PS3 then go ahead, they're both pretty much the same these days anyway.

I don't make a conscious choice to "main" any of my consoles, but I do get more stuff on the PS3 than on the 360 naturally. Like the OP said, I go to the 360 version when the PS3 port is not up to par, but other than that I mostly get stuff on the PS3 based entirely on the fact that I have a larger friendlist on it (welcome to Europe) so I stopped paying for Gold a while ago. It was pretty sound logic. With most friends on the PS3 list and online being free I felt no need to continue paying for Gold, which kind of sealed the deal on getting multiplatform games with online support on the PS3.

The one that marked the shift for me was AC: Brotherhood. I got the first two on the 360 on account of the improved visuals, but I did want to play some multiplayer on Brotherhood (it is kind of fun, even if there aren't many open matches going on for anything other than Deathmatch on the PS3), there was some timed exclusive DLC and the visuals, other than some bothersome tearing here and there, are up to par.

I actually got Red Dead Redemption on the 360 and ended up regretting it. Sure, it looked better, but I missed out on all the multiplayer fun. At one point I pre-paid for a month of Gold to play some Halo: Reach but by then RDR was already a bit passé and it felt a bit late to jump in. For the record, my experience stopping my Gold payments was awful. They had me send them a letter, as in, via post mail, which is blatantly illegal for contracts made over the phone or the internet where I live. So not a good experience, and it didn't motivate me to continue paying for the service with comparable alternatives elsewhere being free, as I also have a gaming PC and a PS3.

I don't pay for PSN Plus, either, but that's just because I honestly don't see the value.

Oh, and for the record, XBL is still my main source of downloadable games, although lately Steam is starting to replace it, as I ended up getting a second copy of Super Meat Boy on my laptop and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light on Steam's Christmas sale.

I congratulate the OP on doing what he wants and not being anymore coerced by peer pressure. Whatever was your choice, if that was the motivation behind it, I'd supported.

I prefer my 360 simply because its the console i have friends that i play games with, which is something it has the xbox live service has accomadated over the years where the PS3 struggled, but i have owned all 3 consoles including the wii and i never limit myself to just playing on one of them as my taste for games changes rapidly.

I dont think it should be weird to favour one console over the other, last gen i was all PS2 and Dreamcast, this gen is Wii and 360.  There are great games out for all of the machines, my PS3 i tend to use only for the exclusives on that machine, the Wii i really only pick up the first party games for.  I think it was more a timing issue as to why i even got a 360 in the first place, all my friends got tired waiting on the PS3 and bought a 360, i eventually followed suit and we have been there ever since.  Might be all change again for the next gen though....

Ah yes, back in the days where the PS3 had "no games" and was just a PS3 with "NO games" for it.
And back then I also thought "Well, two years back or whatever, the 360 didn't have anything worth playing on it too, and before that the PS2 didn't"

Game where you wanna game, kinda sad to see that you're one of those guys who can't have your own opinion and bases everything on what everyone else tells you to think.
But if that's how you wanna live, that's ok. Game on, on whatever you play on

I picked up the 360 because it was cheaper to start with, after 6 months of playing alone while all my friends were on their PS3s I eventually jumped ship. The difference between the two is so little now so just go where your friends are, failing that go where your favourite franchises are.

Unfortunately I've caught a thing for trophies lately, so now I find myself rebuying cheap multiplatform games I own on the 360 to play on the PS3, but that's a different story...

Really, and I say this with love...................some of you guys/girls are insecure dicks. If someone doesn't like what you like...........that's too bad.
So you like one console over the other. Doesn't make you special - and I think the OP made this argument very well.

@Raven_Sword: Funny because I had just started blogging about why I dislike the PS3 (and I hadn't even seen your post).   I must disagree, as some others have already stated, about the 360 games coming out next year.

But it's also all about what kinda games you're into I guess.  PS3 exclusive RPGs completely suck IMO, whereas the 360 or PC RPGs, even though they often don't remain exclusive, are more up my alley.

Also, I have to admit I had no idea until this thread that blue meant PS3 and green meant 360.  Ya'll are prejudiced against people by their name color.  Might as well be racist.

When bayonetta launched on PS3 it was effectively broken. It loaded anytime you picked something up, paused the game, etc. Also, it looks rather bad and did not run well. I know that they did later patch it to add a install option that eliminated that loading stuff and improved performance, but to what extent I do not know and I dont know if they improved visuals at all.

Really?  Perhaps it is you who is insecure.  I was merely commenting on how it was ironic that I had just blogged about something similar, but from the other side of the tracks.  How the fuck is playing devil's advocate being insecure?

Then again, I encountered very few problems in New Vegas, so either I am really lucky, or people just blow shit completely out of proportion.

i would say the ps3 is more multi-use than a 360, the ps3 is better as a home entertainment system, wheras the 360 is more suited for online gaming

that isnt a bad thing at all

i personally am a sony fanboy at heart, but i did buy the 360 on launch, shame i got RROD a couple of times, otherwise i probably would of kept it

Green guy here. I don't blame anyone for going over to the PS3. I'm a 360 only owner but that's only  because it's cheaper to get into a 360 than a PS3. The dirty little trick is Microsoft nickel and dime's you to death once you're in. I don't give a shit about the PS3's Blueray or the 360's excess Live crap (Netflix, Last FM, ect.) and gamewise there's plenty  to play on both since exclusivity is basically dead. As stupid as it sounds the best thing the 360 has going for it is it's controller. The Sony controller is terrible, but that's not a deal breaker. I can see myself making the jump over to the PS3 too some day. I have no allegiance to Microsoft.

" @LiquidPrince: Cross game chat? "
Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot about cross game chat. Probably because I can't remember the last time I ever used it. If I wanted to play a game with my buddies, I just send them an invite. I'm never gonna talk to them while I'm play Black Ops and he's playing Halo or something. It's pretty stupid in my opinion, and really the only thing the 360 has over PS3. "
Eh it depends on your experience with it.   Personally I'm pretty social and since I only really play with people i know in real life from school or college or whatever, it's really nice to cut the only real negative about online console games...  Little kids or morons with mics. Don't get me wrong, before when it was a wasteland of every man for himself and everybody was talking...I kind of loved it, talking trash was amazing. But it grows tiring and the alternative where it's just me and my group of friends I know is a lot better. So that being said we might be talking about things other than games...actually a majority of what we talk about isn't about games or even what's going on, it just makes gaming a little more fun...  "
I already pay over $70 a month for my cell phone. I don't need another $60 a year to "call" people on Xbox Live. "
See....why do you have to be "that" guy?  We're on giantbomb...I thought we were better than this...  You said that like I only buy xbox live for the cross game chat...I get it because I have friends with only a 360 who aren't into games but will play that occasional madden or like one online game like gears, halo or call of duty. I got xbox live gold for my friends...to play with people I know...  Not just to "call" them, so twisting my argument like some anti-social fanboy isn't needed duder... "
I'm not twisting it. Not once did you say because you have more friends on the 360. The only feature about Live you've mentioned in this thread is cross-game chat, and you're post I quoted seemed to try to justify the means for the price.

Trust me, I love all of my consoles, and my 360 has been getting my playtime a helluva lot more than my PS3 these past few months, but why it costs $60 a year boggles my mind. It's free on PC, it's free on PS3, so why isn't it for 360? Or at least $30 a year. PSN has everything Xbox Live has except cross-game chat, and, like I said above, I have a cell phone that accomplishes the same thing as that my extra $60 a year does.

I'm not an anti-social fanboy. I'm not trying to fight, I'm just tired of Microsoft ripping us off and people actually defending them.

thank you then. I dont want people thinking im trying to convert people or something, i was just stating my thoughts on something, but if you found use in what I wrote, then that makes me feel good. So thank you.  I recommend getting the two Uncharted games and Killzone 2 if you decide to get the PS3.

My move to having my PS3 into my main gaming system wasn't intentional at all. I was actually very jaded about my PS3 when I first got it but over time warmed up to it. Frankly I having my 360 brake 5 times (one time it broke two weeks after getting it back). NIce blog post again.

The awesomeness of the ps3 is the fact that first and second party exclusives are platform exclusives, the 360 has some console exclusives but they are mostly 360/pc games that you can actually play with better graphics and keyboard/mouse on a pc and most pc games are cheaper, the steam sales are insane. I'm aiming at owning a big ps3 game collection instead of a 360 one because those games will only run on the playstation platform (ps3 and maybe the next iterations if they have bc), in 20 years we all will be able to buy any 360/pc game on steam and play it without problems.

Eh, while ps3s and xboxes are OK, playing games on them is like...eh. PC is the best way to go.
