Maybe Nintendos not as dumb as i thought

Some reason i was thinking about the name "Wii" and speculating the change base don my ignorance towards the companies practices.

then it hit me, "Wii" is a synonym for "small" at least in slang terminology. They changed it to the Wii from 'Revolution'. Maybe the name was sparked from something so cool because Nintendo realized the Wii may not be sparking the "next best thing evarrrr", calling it the Revolution now would just be mocked by everyone who isn't a nintendo devotee, so "Wii" may have been chosen to subconsciously call it a "Small Revolution" and also a good marketing term to sway away from "Begin the Revolution" or something to "We Would Like to Play" meaning "Us, Together" etc. Probably changed because they themselves coldn't get the controller to do what it was originally designed to do, hence the new attachment that still hasn't come out yet.
because if it stayed "The Nintendo Revolution" what the big N would be symbolizing is "A revolution of low-grade bargain bin games en'mass" as well as bringing your Nanny in to play some "Fair Games". :) They saw this coming, so the name change ensued.

This isn't mean to be taken seriously though, jsut a fun little thought that crossed my brain while i came back to work from Dairy Queen.

Wii = small in Scottish Gaelic, only it's likely spelled differently.

The name has served it's purpose very well and continues to do so.

I read on some blog that they chose Wii due to the fact that 1) They wanted a title that represented their focus on multiplayer games, and 2) They wanted a name completely different from anything game-related so people wouldn't see it as a kid's thing.

You mean like a FunBox 360 and a PonyStation 3?

Hey, there were a lot of adults out there who didn't want to play things like the SNES or the Genesis because of their semi-kiddy image and the advertisement badditude (I read through a '96 EGM recently. My god, the ads were horrible). Because of that, Nintendo is now considered a kids' toy company. With Wii, they removed the name "Nintendo" and made it just "Wii" so that people would see it as something different.
Also, you can't say it didn't work. Look at the sales.

I remember when it was first announced as the Wii they mentioned how they wanted a name that could be said in all languages quite easily.
