My Top Games of 2013 (and a few old games)

I don't always play a ton of new games. I either don't have time or money to pick up all the newest releases, so I'm including a few games that didn't come out this year, but that I played this year.

List items

  • As an avid Zelda fan, this game has a perfect mix of nostalgia and something new. It has a lot of familiar things that were then polished to a fine sheen. Then there are new things like the Item Rental system and the 2D world power. It has some of the best dungeons in any Zelda game. Plus, THAT MUSIC!

  • The Last of Us is possibly the best post-apocalyptic game. The characters are really well developed, the world is really well realized, and you actually have to be careful with your resources. It's just an incredible game.

  • The world Irrational created for Bioshock Infinite is simultaneously one of the most unique and one of the most believable worlds. It really feels like you're there. I guess it helps that the shooting is super good and the story is really enjoyable as well.

  • Gunpoint has a neat story and some of the coolest mechanics in a stealth game. It's just super fun.

  • It's more Phoenix Wright. That's honestly all I could have asked for.

  • At first Rogue Legacy seemed like it was unreasonably tough. Then I kept playing, and the tight controls with the upgrade system made me keep coming back.

  • Honorable Mention for The Stanley Parable. I never played the 2013 remake, but having played the original mod, I wholeheartedly recommend this to most anyone.

  • I opted to wait for all the episodes and play through them all at once. I liked it so much that I actually pre-ordered Season 2. The Walking Dead has one of the best stories in, not only any post-apocalyptic game, but in video games.

  • It may be an old-ish game, but it may also be my favorite game I played this year. The Witcher is truly an amazing RPG.

  • Arkham City was a much bigger game than it's prequel. It's not necessarily better, but it's the game that really makes you feel like Batman.
