Unless you play baseball a curved hat has never been cool
As an old fart I can attest to the fact that at least back in the 80's and early 90's flat brims were a sign of true dorkiness. It still strikes me as odd to see young people wearing flat brimmed hats. Reminds me of something a dorky dad would wear along with his black socks and flipflops.
What was with that Resident Evil 7 talk? When they say things to the effect of "We've been hearing people say that demo was terrible" what are they using for their source? All I've been reading about RE7 is that it's being taken in an exciting new direction and people are digging it. I played the demo alone at night with the lights off and had a great time.
What is going on? The same kind of thing happened with the Sony press conference with the crew feeling that it was one of the worst press conferences in a long time, but the internet was in agreement that Sony killed it. Have they simply become that jaded?
Their comments about Resident Evil 7 surprised me too. The demo wasn't mind blowing but it was far from terrible. And also yeah I thought the Sony press conference was the best press conference of the show. I was very surprised to see how turned off the Giant Bomb crew was by it.
Holy shit, listening to this in audio form, I thought I just imagined the fart but Jesus Christ, that had to be real, right? I can't believe how well they all keep it together. I'd be the guy crying I was laughing so hard.
Phil Spencer...man. I don't like most of the games Microsoft does anymore (Halo, Gears, ect.) but man that dude is likable. His reasoning for not putting out big first-party games on Steam right now was a little weak and was less than the full truth I think, but at least he leaves the door open for that kind of stuff. I'm still a little unclear about why they are marketing the Scorpio as predominantly a 4K machine. If anybody was going to push 4K this generation, I'd have bet you every red cent I had that it would be Sony with their struggling TV operations. It just seems like such a niche thing to push for right now. 4K TV market penetration has to be relatively small still, in the low single digits I'd guess, and likely to stay there for the next year or two. Not to mention, even at SixTeraFlops®, native 4K gaming at the current level of graphical effects, lighting, shadow, ect. is going to be a tall order at a decent framerate. From what I remember, it basically takes an nVidia 1080 to keep framerates over 30fps @4K in modern games. From the Eurogamer review:

However awesome the Scorpio APU is, I highly doubt it's going to be better than a GTX 980 or a Titan X, so why push 4K? I know he says at some point it's up to developers to decide how they want to use that power when the system is not connected to a 4K display, but it just seems like a weird standard to push at this point in time. I think they'd be better off pushing for devs to jack the frame rates to a solid 60fps and increasing detail in-game (better shadows, more lighting effects, higher res textures, better/more physics, ect). I guess the simple answer is it's a lot less work for a developer to just increase the resolution than to do any of that other stuff. Seems like a waste.
Oh and Patrick without a beard looks like he went back pre-puberty.
I'm not convinced the Scorpio is going to deliver on the promise of 4K either. Just as not all current games are 1080p and 60 frames a second not all Scorpio games will be in 4K. To Phil's credit he admits as much but at the same time the dominant narrative that Microsoft is putting out there is that the Scorpio will be your 4K game console, so unless you really do your research you're probably going to assume that EVERY game on the Scorpio will be in 4K but that's not what they're actually guaranteeing.
Also yes, even though the price of 4K TVs have dropped I don't get the impression that that many people own them. Maybe that will change in the next year? It's so weird to be pushing 4K now. Seems like releasing a 4K console in three years would make more sense.
I'm really sorry Austin is leaving. I love what he added to GBE!
But as he sad he's not leaving NY, so beastcast guest. And I think they mentioned he's going to the competition. That leads me to one conclusion (check spoiler). If I'm right I bet we'll easily be able to keep up with him.
Days Gone looks way well polished, and i actually really like the flowing aspect of the zombie hordes, but otherwise seems so rote. it just feels a bit wrong/bad to deny something that looks like a ton of work went into. maybe there's something more interesting to it.
Yeah there are elements of that game that make me want to like it, the visuals, the atmosphere and tone. But...zombies...again? Still I'm going to keep my eye on it. They could win me over.
On a side note I was pretty impressed with Sony's press conference. Then I flipped over to Giant Bomb to hear their reaction and man was that night and day! Whereas I loved the steady stream of impressive trailers the Bomb crew seemed very underwhelmed. I was surprised. I thought God of War, Horizon: Zero Dawn and yes Call of Duty all looked amazing. Hell even Spider-Man looked cool and I can't believe I'm saying that! Spider-Man? Yes! Spider-Man!
