Blockbuster Canada liquidation sales ahoy!

The situation, as if you didn't already know

Yikes. Just got back from a Blockbuster Canada that was liquidating everything in their store at 30% off, which of course is because of their recent closure annoucement. Seems like not every store is closing down, but many of them are. For more information regarding the closing, you can find it here:

In fact, the last links on the page have the full list of stores that are closing or staying open (as of their marked respective last updated dates):

The Haul

I think I did good, brand new copy of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (original price $59.99), and a used rental copy of Vanquish that seems to be in good condition (original used price $34.99). After the 30% off discount and 13% of Ontario HST sales taxes added, it came to $75 bucks for both, which I think I'm happy with. Mind you, all prices are in Canada space bucks. It was an absolute madhouse in there with everything at 30% off, I saw these 2 hippy looking girls walk away with what looked like the entire TV run of Nip/Tuck. I probably would have been interested buying some movies, except I'm in this funny place of not owning a Blu-ray player (so I won't buy blu-rays), yet no desire to buy DVD's because I'd rather buy the better quality of the Blu-rays... except I don't own a Blu-ray player. It's a vicious unfulfillable cycle, I guess.

What could have been, but was never meant to be

At one point, I had the 2 games I bought plus a rental copy of Devil May Cry 4, brand new copy of Dead Rising 2 (orig. $39.99), a used copy of Super Street Fighter 4 (at $24.99), and a brand new Halo Reach Limited box (orig. $55.99), all of which was eligible for 30% off. I quickly came to my senses for most of that though, like when I quickly realized I don't really like playing Halo, and if I wanted to play the singleplayer I'd just borrow that off... anybody. I had the exact same feeling when I almost grabbed Call of Duty: Black Ops off the shelf, as well.

Shortly after that, I realized "what the hell, I have 4 Capcom games in my hands", which then led me to think that if I wanted to buy Devil May Cry 4, I could probably buy it sub-$10 if I wanted to get it used from something like Craigslist. I also then remembered right after, "oh right, Dead Rising's gameplay is pretty much bullshit even though I enjoyed Case Zero because it was so much smaller", so I put that back on the shelf. I'm maybe wishing I bought that, but I think I'll be okay without it when I weight it financially. Then I also remembered that Super Street Fighter 4 is getting that arcade patch applied to it soon, so even after this used copy gets a discount it will cost about $20, which doesn't make sense to buy if the arcade patch is going to cost $15, because then I might as well buy the game brand new when that games out. I also almost picked up Crysis 2 off the shelf, but I would rather buy that for PC so I didn't bother.

I almost even bought a brand new black Wii system bundle (original price was $169.99) that had Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, and a Wii remote plus new in the box after 30% discount and sales tax, it would have worked out to around $135 total. But then I quickly realized that would have been the dumbest impulse buy ever.

Other games I came close to buying but put back on the shelf for one reason or the other, being still too expensive or not being interested in it just enough (or a weighed combination of both factors):
  • Fight Night Champion
  • HAWX 2
  • WWE All-Stars (almost bought it just for the Macho Man)
  • Bionic Commando ($6 brand new lolz)
  • Medal of Honor ($15 after discount)
  • Fable 3
  • Need For Speed Hot Pursuit
  • Force Unleashed 2
  • Fallout New Vegas
  • Singularity
  • Lego Rock Band
  • Alpha Protocol (might be better to get for PC)
  • Final Fantasy 13
  • Bioshock 2 (was only $15, but meh... I may go back and get this)
  • Dark Void ($10)

In closing...

Anyways, I know I'm not the only one who walked out of a Blockbuster store with a little bit of a score. What did you guys manage to grab? Anyone quick enough on the draw to maybe grab some other hardware or even an entire game system? I was on the hunt for Xbox Live points cards, but those got snatched up really quick I imagine, as the entire shelf of them were completely gone. Share your hauls in the comments/posts.
