batman arkham city; its a totally different game from the first one; the first one is up there with some of the best games in terms of gameplay and atmosphere, the only weak portion was the story, and even then it was alright, would've made a good half hour cartoon but not an 8 hour game
the only thing i was hoping for with the new one was a better story and i just thought it sucked; and because that was mostly what i was interested in the way the game revealed itself was really poor; it was like a half assed open world game; the pacing was terrible and the ending was one of the worst things i've ever seen in a game or any batman media - just killing everyone in sight; saying that the boss fights were alright, but they were as good as the first
i haven't had many disappointments this generation; you can always find something to like, but i just can't get on board with B:AC, so much of it is still great, but so much of what they promised failed to live up to it, i wasn't aware of the hype surrounding the first one but the hype just ruined this one for me
another would have been assassins creed brotherhood; just completed it, bought it over a year ago and played it for 5 hours and put it down, couldn't play it, again felt completely different and i though AC2 was one of the best games i've played; i don't mind it, it obviously isn't as good but it pretty good the story is ok but the pacings a bit off
red dead is another, i had heard a lot about it, and as i've mentioned story is the main thing i like, and for some reason the usual paradox of rockstar game - like GTA4 where the protagonist in the cutscenes says he hates killing then goes an kills a 100 people in 5 minutes just annoyed me so much; gta4 is ridiculous in so many ways so its very easy to suspend disbelief, but RDR plays it so serious i thought it didn't make sense for him to be passed around everyone and still claim finding his family was urgent, the ending helped though, at least they did that right
i'll probably revisit RDR and B:AC in a couple years and find them to be masterpieces but at the minute they're probably the biggest disappointments
