With Tri-Ace snatched up, I wonder if Square Enix would ever consider putting one of its internal teams or an external developer on a new 'Star Ocean' game, or will it just let the IP rot away in its vault alongside Mana and Ogre Battle.
weird often see him marked as the inventor of video games i always thought alan turning or some other people technically invented video games and ralph invented usage of tv connected video games
google search inventor of video games and its always ralph seems incorrect
but still doesnt take away from fact that had massive impact on how video games are today
He has a clear claim to "the father of home video games," but any claim more grandiose than that gets kind of hazy. What we think of as arcade video games are the result of several different lineages: electro-mechanical games that had populated arcades in the '40s-'60s, early computer games (most notably "Spacewar," which predates Baer's breakthrough by a few years), and Baer's Odyssey.
@honkalot: It's somewhat ironic that his twitter handle is Nero, because I bet he's getting great enjoyment out of watching this industry burn down around him.
Also Breitbart (the site Milo writes for) is apparently extremely pro-Tea Party. It's extremely easy to connect dots that may not be there when you have this rattling around the back of your mind, and you don't know whether to believe it or not. But honestly? I don't think he has either the best interests of the consumers - or the industry at large - in mind. As Eric Bischoff would say: Controversy Creates Cash.
We have a winner! As the wise man said: follow the money.
Only one person was confirmed as a layoff. I'm not sure where all these newz sitez are getting "massive layoffs at Gamespot" from.
I think Kevin's "Somehow, I am in the tiny group of GameSpot authors still left standing" is a pretty strong piece of evidence that some series $%*& went down today at the site.
Has there ever been a DLC pre-order "prize" for a console video game that didn't later make it out as normal DLC available to everyone? (I had to add that "console" qualifier as I'm willing to be Blizzard has done something like that with the WoW expansions, or some MMO publisher for its PC game.)
This still hurts. Ryan Davis you really were something goddamn amazing.
That pretty much sums up my feelings. I was listening to the "China Don't Care" Bombcast and just marveling at the way he could guide things without seeming to. Good ones can host; great ones can host without appearing to host.
Mac 10.8.2/Firefox 18. I've been having very similar issue to what has been reported -- stopping almost instantly once a video has begun, and then another freeze/buffer about every 12-15 seconds -- but am now resting easier after seeing a) that I'm not the only one who has had trouble, and b) @snide's reply a few replies up. I can live with some rough videos for the time being.
With a new owner, will this mean Jason Rubin will be leaving the company? I'm not an economics major, but it would make sense to me that a new owner would want to install its own people.
Kotaku's article about the troubled development of 'X-Men: Destiny' makes Jeff and Ryan's discussion near the end of their Quick Look of the game (beginning around the 31-minute mark) seem eerily prescient.
