Games that aren't my GotY 2011

This feels stupid, but I feel like I should write out my thoughts about some other games that people like, that I didn't like, like at all.

  • So yeah, I spent over 60 hours in Skyrim, but when I finished the main story, I just felt... empty. I can't get over that the main story is so amazingly boring and bad and empty of all emotion or epicness. Sure, there are a bunch of other quests but when the main story feels like a sidequest, I just don't feel like there's anything worthwhile to do. I can't really get why people like the gameplay either, there's barely any skilled required really and it doesn't matter if I fight a wolf or a fucking dragon, it FEELS the same. In my head, I want to think, HOLY SHIT! A DRAGON!, but I always kind of go, oh, a dragon, get out of my way... And I can't stand that inventory system, how can a RPG filled with loot and weapons, armor, potions and all that RPG-stuff be this clumsy? I hate scrolling thorugh lists of stuff to find a specific thing and when I want to go from a bow to shield and sword I want it to go smoothly, not scrolling down a list. And how in the fuck is Lydia such a liked "character"? SHE IS NOT A FUCKING CHARACTER SHE IS A FUCKING MEATWALL! I hear people praise things and I can't really get it, how is this considered a game of the year? But I think it all boils down to the fact that it isn't a directed experience, maybe it's too open. I'm not saying that I want to be guided, but I want to feel like the game want's to do something, or show something. Maybe tell me a fucking story? At this point I'd rather play Mount and Blade, which plays a fuckload better and doesn't try anything out of their reach.

  • Now, this is a personal tick. It really bothers me that the campaign in Battlefield 3 is so bad, trying to mimic Modern Warfare but not really going far enough or not trying to do it's own thing. If Battlefield 3 was a multiplayer only game, I would have liked it a lot more, which is kind of weird.

  • Yup, it's more Modern Warfare, it's still pretty great. A thing I noticed in this installment is that I really like Captain Price and Soap, like really. The last mission felt so fucking amazing that my jaw hit the floor and stayed there for the duration of the mission. But it's still just Modern Warfare.

  • I didn't think I would turn this bad on Uncharted. It's kind of amazing, I almost hate Uncharted now. The combats difficulty is retarded, it's not hard in a way that feels warranted, it mainly feels like Naughty Dog wanted to fuck over as many times they can. Rockets from all directions, snipers hanging about and shotgunners coming from behind. It made me mad in a way I only get in multiplayer. A thing that made it worse is that they showed the amazing moments in demos and trailers, it totally destroyed the experience. And when you think about the improvements they made from 1 to 2, and then think about 2 to 3, it's pretty obvious why anyone would feel like they have seen it before.

  • I played this two years ago, that was pretty good. Minimal improvements to a game that could have been improved in many areas. Arkham City had the potential to be amazing, but ends up feeling like an add-on to Asylum.

  • Are you serious? Wait, what? Somebody likes this? WHY? The melee works pretty good but hey, how long do you think that stays amazing? There is barely anything good about this game. Except the fact that it has co-op. Oh, who do you voodoo bitch?

  • It's basically number 11 on my list. It's really good, and there is not really anything that bothers me. The innovations aren't really there, it's the only thing that knocks it off the list.

  • It took too long to get going. I only just got the classic armor/costume and haven't come back since. But I will, because I love me some Zelda.
