Doomsday Unrated Review

Doomsday Unrated Review

"Doomsday" is an apocalyptic gore fest, that for once I enjoyed, a lot.

"Doomsday" is set 27 years in the future. In the year of 2008 a deadly virus strikes the United Kingdom and threatens to spread and wipe out humanity. To prevent the spread of this disease,Scotland is quarantined and a wall is built, leaving all who live within to die. Millions are left to die and the whole world watches as a government turns its back. 27 years later in 2035, the once thought dead zone shows signs of life, just as the virus reappears inside the city of London. The government takes quick action to fence off the newly infected areas. They form an elite team led by Maj. Eden Sinclair (Rhonda Mitra) to go over the wall in search of survivors and a possible cure. Once over the wall the team soon discovers that this dead zone is not as abandoned as once thought, rather a dark and barbaric threat awaits. They must fight their way out and bring any hope of a cure back in order to save millions.

Ill start by saying the acting was a lot better then I thought it would have been. Usually a horror film like this doesn't fill its cast with a great group but I was very pleased. Not only did the lead Mitra play a great heroin that kicked some serious ***, but the rest if the cast didn't disappoint, especially Craig Conway who played Sol, the mo-hawked leader of the barbaric group living in the city. He played a very interesting and sick character, who was fun to watch but also truly disturbing at the same time. Id also like to mention Alexander Siddig, a rather unknown actor who played the Prime Minister in this film, he also appears in Syrian as Prince Nasir Al-Subaai , and I have just recently been noticing him and would like to see him in more films.

Action wise this film doesn't disappointed. Its got car chases, gun fights and gore galore. This was defiantly one of the bloodiest films Ive watched in a while, but it wasn't over done i think, which I liked.

Usually I don't like these types of films. Like Resident Evil and recent apocalyptic films usually don't go over well with me, and I usually hate them, but this one was different. It reminded me of Mad Max, Escape From New York and even Waterworld. It had a great lead who kicked *** and had very interesting and psychotic villains.

The film did have some flaws, and a few plot holes but not enough to really hurt the film is anyway. The plot was interesting in my opinion and I liked how they portrayed the people inside the wall, both groups, so different, living separate paths but each barbaric in their own way and era.

The film gets respect for actually being enjoyable, and its entertaining and essentially I believe it fulfilled what it planned to do. Critic wise this film wasnt well received, but its just one that can only appeal to a few. I will say now that many will not agree with me on this one, but I really enjoyed this one. Its got action and gore and stands side by side with Mad Max and Escape from New York, and I enjoyed it alot, 8.5/10.
