If you don't play on the highest difficulty then you don't really know how hard a game is. That is why it is a ''real difficulty''. Some game might be harder than average on normal but not all that hard on the hard settings. FPS games in general are not supposed to be played on a gamepad in general, it makes for a miserable experience on any difficulty. Never played ME 2, ME was perfectly playable on the hardest difficulty.

Not quite. For example, one of the hardest parts in Oblivion at it's hardest setting was is the first two rats you encounter during the tutorial - there are guides to killing the very first enemies you face... there is no way that is intended to be the "real difficulty."

Maybe it is, the start is supposed to be very tough as you don't know the mechanics very well and are just starting out. In Skyrim I spend about 40 min trying to kill some mages at an early level character for some quest, I had to use everything, from the environment to the quicksave mechanics...but in the end I somehow managed. And now I kill everything in one hit, no one can touch me and it is the same difficulty. So yes RPG games are supposed to be tough at the beginning.

Maybe, but there is no reason anyone should ever play oblivion on anything other than normal. All the difficulty slider does is increase enemy damage and decreases yours, so if you know how to play the game the net result is longer battles, more annoying not really more challenging. (having played it a great deal on hardest)

Personally it depends on the game for me, when I had more time I used to go from normal to hardest on most games, now I go on a game by game basis. Some games like infamous and Dragon age on hard are still kinda easy for me.

Phantasy Star IV, if you want to play it legit get a compilation for the new consoles, because the cart will cost a bunch.

Who are all the lunatics saying 'kick Greece out and all will be well'? You have any idea what that will do? It could collapse the whole financial system. What this debt crisis needs is someone to step in and say 'I got yo back', like the fed did after black monday. The EU has enough resources and is more than capable of weathering the storm, unfortunately the EU is not a single nation and a potential solution like the ECB being a lender of last resorts can create even bigger problems. So no easy solutions, we all need to hold on tight because the next few years could be rough.

This is one of the biggest problems with the EU and why the signle currency is such an idiotic idea. When they were bringing it in they held up the US as an example of an OCA and how a single currency could work...bad example, too much of difference between euro nations. Also, most of the advantages that were supposed to come about with the euro never materialised.

Play both man, don't listen to the fools bashing on Oblivion. At this point though play Skyrim first just to ride the wave with the rest of us, easier to share your experiences/get help when other people are playing the game. Personally I can still go back to Oblivion its aged really well, unlike many other games, though you can see the changes in Skyrim straight away.

@mac_n_nina: There are plenty of references to Oblivion in Skyrim, but none of them are important so you can play the games in any order.

Old games aside, I'm pretty sure that even new PC games go through the thing where they become available used at a discount days after release, so I have no idea where you are coming from.

No, they don't. I don't know how that would be possible (aside from fringe cases).

No one accepts PC games back after they're used because of how CDkeys and DRM works now.

OhDearMe. Guess all those guys must be crazy, selling recently-released, used PC games that don't work.

Yes, with modern DRM, steam especially, its difficult to impossible to get recent used games to run properly. However, don't say silly things like the market does not exist when it does.

i honestly will never understand why people buy used games. in my local GAME the pre-owned (i hate that term, its second-fucking-hand) games are usually about £5 cheaper than the new copy. which is still more expensive than if you buy off amazon.

but as a PC gamer now it isn't even an issue as there is no second hand PC games market.

For your 1st point: I will accept for new releases, no reason you should buy used just to save some £5. However, I would have a hell of a time trying to find a sealed copy of Streets of Rage for my Mega Drive these days, or even some older 360/PS3 games. By your logic, if for some reason I missed a game when it first came out, then I should never play it at all, cos you don't understand why people buy used games.

2nd Point: Really? Do you live on the moon? I have a load of games in my PC collection that I bought used because they are not available through gog/steam yet and/or are very hard to find new, even with budget re-released through sold out/xplosive etc. Old games aside, I'm pretty sure that even new PC games go through the thing where they become available used at a discount days after release, so I have no idea where you are coming from.

@TaliciaDragonsong: You seem very confused. Meaning of quote: don't make a promise you can't keep. If the story was about him proposing and then getting cold feet it would make sense.

Yes I do have an awesome taste in games, thank you. My fav game ever is Wu-Tang Shaolin Style, after all.

The Cortana quote above the article sums it all up.

In what way? The quote has nothing to do with the guys story, yet he tries to painfully make it fit for some reason. Seems like he put the first cool sounding quote as a sub-heading and went from there.

Moral if the story - Halo is for stupid people.

Like I've said before, Zelda fans are rabid. It's quite unfortunate really.

Not just Zelda fans,Nintendo fans in general. Despite the fact the company has not been at its peak, or relevant, for about 15 years. They make out every mario/zelda release like its the pinnacle of gaming...give me a fucking break.
