Personally I find Mario to be a shallow and boring character, yet I don't seem to see anybody doing character studies on him for the sake of hating.

Because Mario games aren't interested in telling a story or a character. They're just about fun gameplay.

Mario and Kratos aren't at all comparable.

Except Kratos was literally created to just have some point that drives the gameplay, so they really are comparable. Im pretty sure Mario game's have stories. But oh no wait, Mario is a classic character, can't say nothing bad about Mario...*yawn*

@sasnake: Yeah, and I guess going from killing to killing because he was blinded/tricked/deceived into killing his innocent family, when he had doubtlessly done the same to countless others, shows a colossal lack of character development. Continuing to kill innocents is icing on the cake.

He’s a shallow lunkhead.

I’m cool with unlikable protaganists, just not utterly boring protaganists.

I’ll have to look into the new game some more, but I assume from what I’ve seen, he’s a 2+ note character in 2018...which would be great.

@fisk0: Oh, I’m sure I’ll check the game out soon. It’s getting all kinds of praise and I’m sure it’s rock solid. PS2/3 Kratos was just a garbage character.

His rage was comical. His fate (killing his family and wearing their ashes) seemed just enough considering his deeds. The entire series, he was this idiot that never learned lessons, just killed.

The only reason he killed his family, from what I recall, is because he was a power-hungry marauding maniac who probably brutally murdered hundreds of other women and children.

Along his path to vengence for shit he was complicit in, he kills seemingly innocent strangers for convenience sake.

If he learned a lesson about gods, war, the value of life, and was a tropey relictant killer, it still would have played far better than he did.

Again, I may be missing a key plot point, but I recall him directly and indirectly causing his family’s death on multiple levels.

Kratos killed many by the orders of Ares, seeing as Ares owned him after he pledged himself to him. Ares tricked Kratos into killing his family. The only thing Kratos cared about at that point was killing the gods, he didnt really care about "innocent lives" nor try to redeem himself for it. Killing the Gods, that was it.

The reviews are pretty much what I expected. The game was perfect reviewer bait.

I can’t tell the tone of this. Like screw them for making a game with good gameplay and a seemingly compelling story (that still really isn’t a given with every video game coming out) or that all the reviewers are wrong in liking it?

If this is some type of comparison to movies, that have an ”oscar bait” vibe to them, I can maybe somehow see (but not share) your point, but it’s still pretty cynical. A story about a father and his son isn’t maybe the most original tale, but if it’s well told (again a rarity, with TLOU being the only similiar example I can think of) and the action is great as well, I’m onboard.

That said, I would’ve bought this game anyway as a long-time fan.

Leave him alone! If he want's to be edgy its his choice!

As I am going through the reviews of Far Cry 5 and found that the game is underrated still as it was the most anticipated game but IGN and many other big names rated this game 6 or 6.5 out of 10.

Why so?

IGN currently sitting at 8.9/10 and Gamespot at 9/10., I dunno what game you are talking about.

Giant Bomb: 3/5 = 6, Polygon: 6.5

Yeah...that's not many. You should really look harder.
