My Personal GOTY's

Hey, if the Giant Bomb staff is doing it, I'll be a bandwagon whore and do it, too!

10. Shin Megami Tensei/Revelations: Persona 2: Innocent Sin (wow, a mouthful) - The fan translation project came out in October and since then I've been playing it. The translation is surpisingly well done and is an interesting opening chapter for Persona 2: Eternal Punishment (which was released by Atlus in the US). A nice gem of a game that should be on Playstation RPG owners' lists to try.

9. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3: FES - A remake/rerelease of the original Persona 3 a year back. But now with added content. Not for everyone (and the dating "sim" aspect is a bit cliche) but the story is one of the better RPG stories that came out in 2007/2008.

8. Metal Gear Solid 4 - I'm sure most everyone is thinking "WHAT!? WHY SO LOW ON THE LIST!?" Well, I did like it and the story was okay for a finishing chapter, but it can't touch MGS3 in my eyes for a fun playthrough and a "devil may care" story. The whole "PATRIOT!" plot-twist and Liquid being (spoiler) also left a bad taste in my mouth after years of waiting for the bullshit time-wasting MGS2 plot to finish. Still worth playing though.

7. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Sure a game from 2007. But it's been one of my most played multiplayer games in a while (probably since Quake 3: Arena), it and the Orange Box/Team Fortress 2 were the most played games for me (I literally have put in about a months worth of time in each. Much better than Call of Duty: World at War (CoD5) IMO.

6. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 - Takes the Persona 3 system and improves on it dramatically. While I have some distaste for the cast (I prefer Persona 3's cast and story) the gameplay is much better and more forgiving if you don't want to Social Link all the live long day.

5. Wipeout HD - Balls hard, but in a good way. For $20 you can't really go wrong with trying it and the 1080p visuals are very gorgeous. Add in a camera/photo taking option and the game will give you some cool PS3 backgrounds. Zone mode is addicting.

4. Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2 - Actually, thinking about it. This is my number 4 instead of Mass Effect. More of the same addicting and hard as hell/timed precision gameplay on the Nintendo DS. More of this, less of it being used on the Nintendo console, please, Atlus. Waggle doesn't work for it.

3. Ikaruga (X-box Live Arcade) - Yes, it's technically a port of a Dreamcast game. But it's still a solid shooter with a neat polarity gimmick. It's very hard if you don't memorize patterns/avoid gunfire well, but it's still worth going through on a "free play" mode run and seeing all the bosses and visuals, very pretty especially now that the XBLA version puts it in high-def. Plus, where else can I wait a little bit and the boss will just go "well, you don't want to fight me? LOL 'KAY" (leave)?

(Yes, there are two ones, shaddap.)

1. Little Big Planet - I literally had no interest in the game until I got into the Eurogamer beta giveaway and downloaded it. As soon as it started the Media Molecule intro and showed Sackboy's emotions and let me dress him/her up I fell in love with it. It's a cute creative platformer that should really sell more than it did. Shame new IP's get burned like this while Gears of War 2 goes on to sell millions of being the same thing. :( I'll be the first to admit it isn't for everyone, but people should at least admit it tried to be different and bring something new to the table for console players.

1.  Valkyria Chronicles - A GOOD SEGA GAME? ON MY PLAYSTATION 3 CONSOLE? IT'S MORE LIKELY THAN YOU THINK! Now if Sega would stop making crappy Sonic sequels (or, maybe just fire Sonic team) and made good games like VC and JSRF and the like they would probably stop being the "THQ" that they want (seriously, go Google that and laugh with the rest of us) and be a pretty good contender for good games again. Shame they got out of the console market, as the Dreamcast and gems like this game prove that Sega still can be relevant to gamers interests.

So yeah, my personal opinions. Most being RPG's, but hey... I was in an RPG playing mood this year.

I feel an honorable mention would be Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo: High-Definition Remix. But I blow hard at playing SF2 (compared to Marvel vs Capcom) so it slipped my mind. :(

Why hasn't X-box Live done this?

Actual fucking keyboard chat!? Something PSN supports, but XBL only supports in less than... five games?!

I've tried to get this through Major Nelson's head, but apparently NO ONE AT MICROSOFT GIVES A SHIT ABOUT DEAF PEOPLE. VOICE CHAT IS THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE! LOL ENJOY PAYING $50 A YEAR WHILE PC USERS CAN USE OUR SERVERS FOR FREE!

*sigh* Come November, I'm probably going to drop my 4 year X-box Live subscription. X-box Live isn't evolving anymore outside of "WE NOW SUPPORT DISNEY MOVIES!" to warrant the $50 a year. The community is getting pretty shitty. And no option outside of voice chat and lack of mods (something PSN supports~!) are really killing the 360 in my eyes.

Only redeeming grace is that XBLA is really good, compared to PSN/The Nintendo Urine's offering.

Only think holding PSN back at this point is home. Which I would love to see my newly bought Burnout Paradise PS3 trophies/achievements in.

Geo Wars: Retro Evolved 2 review

The Good:

Same GeoWars action you've come to know and love
Different modes
Achievements seem a lot easier (but just as frustrating) to get compared to the first

The Bad:
No online co-op, hopefully this'll be patched in.
Most modes get boring after a bit.
Some of the achievements seem based on luck (I'm looking at you treaty) than actual skill.
Why is it called "Retro Evolved" when there is no "Retro?"

The Ugly:
Graphics. Why is it so colorful? I'd prefer an option to change the grid color and have the same graphics of GeoWars1. :/

Worth a buy?

If you love GeoWars, yes. If you haven't played the games before, I'd suggest playing the demo(s) of 1/2 and seeing for yourself. 1 is still relevant for 200gs and retro mode, but it's been replaced by Retro Evolved 2 for Evolve and other modes.

I'm shocked there is no HoH/Deaf category/forum section on this site to discuss the problems with games that deal with us. Guess we truly are a minority in gaming. Very sad, but I guess expected.

If I get off my ass I may start writing in this about my travels through the wonderful world of video gaming. But I (and you) shouldn't hold your breath about that, since I always stop writing things that I start.
