Retro Bomb!

I was playing around in illustrator, trying out pixel art today while listening to the bombcast.  This popped out! I'm now thinking about making a short animated series that would be kinda like the smodcast cartoons and ricky gervais cartoon show where I would animate whatever they are talking about in the short clip but in this version everything would look like an old school video game... good idea or bad idea? Also do I have the time for something crazy like that. (probably not)

The art style reminds me of Zoo Keeper, but it does look awesome.                             :)

The guys look pretty good, but the text is quite janky - why are both 'B's different sizes? Also, round out the bomb a bit, it's looking pretty octagonal.

The b's are two different sizes because I wasnt paying attention, as this is merely a sketch ;D  I might change the bomb but really I like how it is.

actually just to clarify... Illustrator is not for pixel art specifically. Its a pretty diverse program! Its kinda like photoshop for cartoonists and designers. Here's some of my other work that I've done in illustrator. Just for fun stuff. I dont usually do illustrations because my day job is animation so I'm always a bit rusty at it.

I have only used Illustrator one or two times as I always use PhotoShop but it would be great if there were some tutorials on making illustrations.

PS: I think your illustrations are awesome, love the style lol.

Just out of interest why are you using a vector-based program to create raster art anyway?

@BeachThunder: A lot of reasons, but mostly because I animate in flash. Also vector art is easier to  manipulate and scale. If you are going for any kind of clean look vector is always the way to go. If you are going for a more painted or texture oriented look you go with rastered programs like photoshop or painter. I could use photoshop or something else like it but I like the flexibility of Illustrator and it's just the way to go for crisp stuff.

Nice, mate. This stuff's right up my alley (including all the stuff in the linked page).

Goddamn it, I love Illustrator. Nothing beats a crisp curve that you can zoom right in on and have it still be razor sharp.

@shoddyrobot: I really like your work as well. I'm curious though, what exactly do you do to make your photos in illustrator? Do you just use the pen tool or some combination of tools? I have tried many times to use illustrator, but I always get frustrated by it because I'm used to Photoshop. Would you happen to know of a site that gives tips on how to draw with illustrator? It's been over three years since I took my illustrator class in college so I don't remember a dam thing about it. lol
