Two hands, two burritos.

Finished the first Fallout New Vegas DLC last night, Dead Money, and was pretty blah about it. I hate that they take your equipment. I generally spend some time with my stuff to make sure its repaired and that I got ammo. Then its all taken and you get some junky stuff and have to 'start' all over again, err. Anyway, I played on normal at level 26 and I didn't have any issues with the enemies in the DLC. At first I did a lot of sneaking but once I got some guns and ammo, I just went up to them and blew off their heads. The story was ok but I never really cared for it. I liked God/Dog and the chick but the mutant guy annoyed me. Glad I got to kill him. Haha. The whole radio thing was so annoying and such a bad game design choice. I didn't mind the holo security as you could simple run past them. So at the end, I was glad they gave you money/gold instead of guns or armor as I got plenty of that. Looking forward to playing the next DLC sometime this weekend. I just hope there is some dang sunlight as I hated how dark it was during Dead Money.

Seen some gameplay videos of The Darkness 2 and it looks a lot better then the first one. It took me two attempts and a solid resolve to complete the first one but I don't think that will be an issue this time. Who knows when I will actually get around to playing it. No rush as I got plenty of time for Xbox 360 games.

Quick hits:
1) I think its total BS that Patriot fans are putting the goat on Wes Welker. These tools needs to watch the play again as it was a bad pass. Brady was horrible in the fourth quarter.
2) I've been listening to the PODcast for Around the Horn the past week to see if Woody will win his 400. I think its lame the others think its them vs him.
3) For the third weekend in the row, I didn't plan well on what I'll be eating. And with the hounds here this weekend, they'll expect noms.
4) Think I'm addicted to the burritos at Chipotle.

Random stuff.

I watched the Puppy Bowl twice and the bit with the Basset Hound a third time and I could barely stand to watch the Super Bowl once. I had two complaints about the Puppy Bowl. The first being that the Basset Hound barely got any tv time and the second is that the kitten half time show was too long. The Super Bowl wasn't super, it was a normal game with 50 minutes of it being dull. The half time show was horrid. It was bad enough to rob the grave yard for madonna but everyone who bothered to watch it have been commenting about how the lip sync was really bad. Even bad for lip syncing. I'm happy that the Giants won and the commercials were ok so it wasn't a total waste of time. Thou I was doing stuff the entire time.

I think overall my NFL attention has been declining the past couple years. There is too much time between plays and so many commercial breaks. Those breaks can last a long time too and gawd, how many times do we need to see the play 60 or coors light commercials? If I had the power, I would make big changes to the game. Oh well, another month and MLB's spring training starts. And NBA hasn't been bad so far thou I'm sick of announcers making excuses for these spoiled players not being in shape. Did they have to work a full time job during the strike? Its your job to be in shape. Just stupid.

I had planned on playing the new Soul Calibur V but I just didn't get excited for it so never got around to it. So that has been put on the backlog list and I'll be playing the Fallout New Vegas DLC instead. I think there is four or five of them which I would think take a week or two. No real hurry as I'm not looking forward to anything for the rest of the month.

It might be 30 degrees (F) outside but without any snow I was able to use the grill. Been a long time since I've had bratwursts, so tasty. Since its been so mild and very little snow, I don't have spring fever just yet. Probably since I have to lay down new mulch or wood chips in the back yard this spring. That will suck.

Quick hits:
1) I started to ask for extra sour cream on my Chipotle burrito and what a world of difference it makes.
2) Skrillex actually made a korn song sound good.
3) Youtube needs a option that if you select it, that video will never play no matter what. If its in a playlist, it will just skip over it and the videos would never be in the recommended or list of others.

Random stuff.

Been playing Lego Indiana Jones the past week or so and yeah, I really do see why I didn't play it until now. Doing it solo makes it pretty boring. The combat is just a button mash and there is barely any combat. The puzzles at times can be interesting but some of those jumps are annoying because of the camera. I thought about doing all the collectables but I quickly grew tired of that. The achievements for each level is helping me get thru the game. I do plan on looking at the list to see if I can pick up anything quick and easy once I'm done with the story. I'm probably 1/3 of the way thru the last movie and it really does make me want to watch the movie again. Anyway, it'll be a long time before I play another Lego game.

I'll probably play the new Soul Calibur V next to eat up some free time before the game I really want to play comes out. That will be next week's Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. I need to see more game play videos of it but it looks to be a pretty solid game. So, I'll play around with SCV until that comes out.

Don't know if I mentioned this before during my SWTOR talks but the guild that we had setup with friend and co-workers didn't work out the way it was planned. The vast majority of people broke their word and went to another server and the other faction. It was decided last week to join another guild as we simply didn't have the numbers. So, that has been working out really well. The new guild generally has 9-12 people on during the evenings with flashpoint runs happening quite a bit. I had planned on joining a massive guild but thought I start smaller and if need be, go bigger. So far, everyone is happy and thats what matters.

My main on SWTOR is 42 and I've been grouping with a friend the past few planets. He is at 40 but he likes to brag that his legacy is a level higher then me. Before joining the new guild, we would alternate between our mains and a alt but now when we are both on, we focus on the mains. We are wanting to do operations and with the guild getting close to having enough 50s, we want to be part of the action. I have no idea how long it will be before we hit 50, I would say probably 2-3 more weeks but we feel no major rush.

We both have toons for every class so thats one reason why we don't have a 50 yet. My alts are 27, 24, and a 14. I really am doing that last one for the biochem skill as I'd like to get some stims for my main. So once I get my own ship and that droid, I'll park it on the fleet and just level his skill with AH mats. Probably be a bit as I noticed one person is trying to inflate the prices really bad. On the main, I did reach max skill on armstech so I'm happy about that. I've done a few RE but no way am I going to try to RE everything as thats just nuts. I must say those mission skills can take a lot of credits to level up but most give you mats for other skills so its a bit of a trade off.

Moving on, watched In Time and I generally liked it. I felt however that the movie could of gone in so many directions. I get very annoyed when a movie gives you no backstory. So humans stop the age process at 25, how? When did it start? The movie hints at the start of a world conspiracy to keep the population low but never tells us more. Annoys me. I also watched Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I like spy movies and I really like british movies. However, this movie which is based off a book has way too many things going on but none of them are really fleshed out enough to be interesting. Just too many sub plots and then before you know it, the main guy knows who the mole is and thats it. It was just very dull. At least the new Top Gear season/series started so I'm very much looking forward to that. Thou, I still mad that they only do six shows at a time now. They use to do like 10+ and the show was better back when they just let things happened instead of setting up the jokes.

Super Bowl this weekend and right now I don't know if the woman's parents will come down like they did last year.

Which to choose?

So I want to fire up the Xbox 360 and play a game maybe for an hour or so. Generally something that I can easily pick up and play and be able to pause when needed. With a backlog of 46 games, I have a lot to choose from in many genres. I could go the easy route and pick a big name game like the last Batman or Assassin's Creed but I'm really not in the mood for that. So I decided to pick a game from a list of the five oldest games I currently have on that backlog. That would be:

12/2006 Star Trek Legacy
8/2007 Blue Dragon
10/2007 Sega Rally Revo
6/2008 Lego Indiana Jones
8/2008 Tales of Vesperia

Right off the bat I take remove teh two JRPGs as I'm not in the mood for them. That leaves a racing game and two 'action' type games. Looking at the two genres, I'm more drawn to the racing at this time. However, its a sega game and well they aren't known for making good games these days. And after looking around a bit, it looks like Sega Rally Revo suffers from a common issue to most jap games, cheating or just down right bad game design. This game has no difficulty setting so later in the game, it appears that the game gets very hard due to cheating AI. I might have to re-think this game and see if its something I want to bother with at all. So, I will be going with Lego Indiana Jones. Should be a nice casual game to unwind with.

Moving on to upcoming games, I know there is a lot of buzz for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. I've watched some gameplay videos and it looks good. But for me, fantasy games have really lost their appeal. Could be that I just need to play an awesome game to break me from my mood. One that offers more options then Skyrim. Yes yes, Skyrim was good but the combat was ok and there was barely any reason to loot because there was only so many things in the game. After the 1000s plain sword, it gets a bit boring. Don't help that the inventory was horrid. Anyway, I will welcome Kingdoms the best I can.

Many months ago, I can't recall when, I did a blog about my friend who fixed a Xbox 360 for me. Since then, a co-worker gave me a broken 360. He had bought it from ebay from a guy that fixed it after it had broken. It had broke before that because it had the refurb stuff in it. So, that 360 has been thru a lot. Anyway, it had a general error but I had confidence my friend could fix it. And he did. It appeared that a chip or such from the underside of the mobo broke off and was rattling around in the metal cage. So after he repaired that, it was working fine. He did the reflow just to be safe and a fan mod to increase cooling. It'll probably cost me $15 to have it shipped to me or I could wait till the fall when he comes up for my wedding. I think I'll just have it shipped as he can lose stuff. Haha.

Sheet upgrade.

Took a couple days but I've finally added the release dates for all the retail, xbl, and dlc on my sheet. I'll be breaking it down by years of how many I've finished, done, and on the backlog. And why you might ask because I got the time.

2005 Total: 8
Finished: 6
Done: 2
Backlog: 0

Of the two games that I didn't finish, one I simply couldn't beat and that was Zuma. The other Dead or Alive 4 I could suffer thru and complete but I'll wait for a rainy day to do that.

2006 Total: 17
Finished: 12
Done: 4
Backlog: 1

The game on the backlog, Star Trek Legacy, I'm not real sure yet that I'll play it. Might just hang around a long time.

2007 Total: 36
Finished: 29
Done: 5
Backlog: 2

Games on the done list have nearly zero chance of ever being played again and the two on the backlog will be played at some point.

2008 Total: 70
Finished: 57
Done: 9
Backlog: 4

That is a lot of games to finish for one year. If I recall, 2008 probably had the most games come out as well.

2009 Total: 79
Finished: 70
Done: 3
Backlog: 3

I take that back as 2009 just took charge. Some amazing games came out in 2009.

2010 Total: 64
Finished: 50
Done: 0
Backlog: 14

Nothing to say.

2011 Total: 48
Finished: 28
Done: 0
Backlog: 20

I've really dropped the ball in 2011 on new games. A lot of great games too, just didn't have the time.

I do plan on playing some Xbox 360 real soon. Maybe play it on days were I have limited time or will have a lot of interruptions.

IGN's 2011 picks.

I know I'm late in doing this but better now then never. I'm taking a look at IGN's 2011 awards and the games they are looking forward to the most for 2012. I'll be giving my views because I have the time. I'm only looking at the Xbox 360 when possible.

Action: Gears of War 3 - No complaint here, game is awesome.

Fighting: Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 - I played the first version and thought it was a great game so no issue here.

Racing: Forza 4 - No complaint, its near perfect.

RPG: Skyrim - See below.

FPS: Battlefield 3 - This one is always tough. Between BF3 and MW3, I thought they was both really good so I would say its a tie.

Sports: FIFA 12 - If NBA 2k12 didn't have so many bugs and issues with the my player mode...

Graphics: Crysis 2 - Don't really care.

Sound: Battlefield 3 - Don't really care.

Story: Portal 2 - BS. Gears 3 had a story that Hollywood would kill for.

MP: Battlefield 3 - N/A

XBL: Bastion - I tried this game and I didn't like it at all. Torchlight and WH40k was better for me.

GOTY: Skyrim - In terms of sheer time, Skyrim is the king. However, I had more fun playing other games like Deus Ex, Red Faction Armageddon, and Space Marine.

In summary, I've yet to play a lot of 2011 releases. I'll be adding that new column on my sheet to help sort games better. In the mean time, I can say I'm still very far behind in general with 47 games in the backlog.

Now that we got the 2011 awards done, lets look to what IGN is most wanting in 2012. No order and anything that wasn't on the Xbox 360 or PC was removed.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 - Hmm, a JRPG for girls. I guess if its better then the last FF, I might give it a go.

Soul Calibur V - I didn't mind the last SC but that progression mode was too cheap too fast.

The Darkness II - Took two attempts to get this game finished but I will look at this new one with an open mind.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Never heard of it. From what I gather, its a fantasy RPG. Getting tired of that genre but will look into it.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier - I played the last Ghost Recon and it was nice but not great. I will however still look into this one.

Mass Effect 3 - Hated the first game, loved the second. As long as they keep to the second game style, I'm sure I'll love the third.

Street Fighter x Tekken - SF4 sucked so I really hope it has nothing from that game.

Max Payne 3 - Got my eye on it, should be fun.

Silent Hill: Downpour - I don't do horror games.

Ninja Gaiden III - I really enjoyed the last game and didn't find it all that hard.

Guild Wars 2 - Ugh, yet another fantasy mmo. Don't care if it was free to download and play, its still fantasy.

Aliens: Colonial Marines - Eh, lets see if it actually finish it.

Assassin's Creed 2012 - Should be good.

BioShock Infinite - In my top 5 of games I want for 2012. Should be really fun.

Halo 4 - Also in my top 5, you can't go wrong with this series.

Tomb Raider - I only played the first game way back on the PC and never had a interest in the series. If they are redoing the whole style and such, I might give it a go.

Borderlands 2 - Probably my number 1 game for 2012. If they really expanded the game, it should be just pure awesome.

Diablo III - I did the beta and was bored and put off a lot. The entire style of the game is outdated. I will not be getting this game.

Grand Theft Auto V - I hope they fix the car handling as it sucked in IV. And I hope they can do a proper gun combat as well.

Hitman: Absolution - Eh, we'll see.

StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm - The best thing about SC2 was the movies during the story. The gameplay itself was unchanged from the first game and quite boring.

XCOM - Not thrilled with what I seen. I rather it stick to the same style genre that made it famous.

My top picks:

Borderlands 2

BioShock Infinite

Halo 4

Mass Effect 3

I really wish there was more strategic games out there. I'd love a proper space game where you get a ship or take over the galaxy. And why does the GB text box have to double space everything?

2011 numbers.

I'll remember 2011 as the year separated into three sections. First section was Jan thru May when we seen some decent games come out. The summer is the second section and it was really tough. And like Fall rain to cool the land, the Holiday season saw a ton of releases. A lot of big ones as well.

Year: 2011

Games completed - 52

Air Conflicts Secret Wars - Plain but not much choice for this genre.

Alpha Protocol - Didn't mind it at all.

Apache Air Assault

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - Felt exactly like the second game.

Battlefield 3 - Blew me away, didn't expect it to be that good.

Bayonetta - Typical jap junk. Too many cutscenes, little gameplay.

Bionic Commando

Bioshock 2

Bodycount

Bulletstorm

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - Very much improved from the last one.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

Crysis 2

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Very fun.

Dirt 3 - A step back for the series.

Dragon Age 2

Driver: San Francisco

Dungeon Siege III - More fun the Diablo 3 beta.

EA MMA - Hit detection was bad.

Fallout New Vegas - The gun gameplay is still rough and the mobs leveling was just bad. Go from superman to not being able to kill anything with less then 200 rounds.

FIFA 12

Fight Night Champion

Gears of War 3 - Just pure awesome.

Gothic 4

Guitar Hero 3

Homefront - The actual game play was good but the story is sooo impossible that it distracts from the good parts.

Limbo

James Bond: Blood Stone

Kameo

Madden 12

Marvel vs Capcom 3 - Japs finally did a good game.

Metro 2033

Naruto: Rise Of A Ninja

NBA 2k12 - My player is fun but has too many bugs and bonehead stuff.

NCAA Football 12

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit

Rage - If this came out in 2008 or 2009, it would of been great but in 2011, it was pretty bad.

Red Faction Armageddon - I missed the out doors free roam but it was still a very good game.

Sacred 2: Fallen Angel - Better then the Diablo 3 beta. Game has sooo much depth.

Saints Row The Third - A fun and wild ride.

Singularity

Split/Second

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2

Test Drive Unlimited 2

The Darkness

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - While a great game, it lacks the variety to keep it fresh for a long period of time.

Torchlight

Trials HD

Tropico 4

Warhammer 40K: Kill Team - Very good and very sad to see that no more content will come out.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine - A great start to what I hope is a long series. They need to redo the health system thou.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009

games not completed - 1

Burnout Revenge - It simply did not age well. Lame achievements didn't help.

I'm 21 games behind the 2010 total and just 5 over the very first year which was only 8 months long. In defense, I was playing WoW at the start of 2011 and didn't stop until May.

In the period from Jan to May, I finished 15 games which is still pretty respectable. On the other hand, Aug to Dec which is the same amount of months, I finished 26 games. So I would say WoW did have a good size impact. Thou, even if I did match the Aug-Dec numbers, I still be short of 2010's totals.

In my defense, I've changed jobs, god some very bad news in the family, was sick for five weeks, and hosted all the Holidays this fall/winter. I did take my annual Xbox 360 break in Dec and I was ready for it. Helps to freshen the mind. And as my weakness, I started a new MMO, SWTOR.

That is going very strong and most likely keep me off the 360 a lot.

2010 numbers.

2010 saw a ton of great games for the Xbox 360 to come out and I did my best to play them all. With so many great games, I came close to matching the previous year's total but fell a little short. I had a couple breaks that held the numbers down but ya gotta take breaks every so often or you might never come back.

Baja - I got this game for Turkey cause it had 4 player coop, otherwise its a horrible game.

As in 2008, a WoW expansion came out in 2010 on Dec 7th. Considering I always seem to be a tad burnt out during this time, its not a surprise that only two games got done in that month.

I've beaten 2008's completion total but I doubt I'll ever get near the 70s again. I don't feel that urge to get caught up anymore as there is simply no way to play everything right away. My back log will probably never get below 30 until well after the new games stop coming out for the Xbox 360.

And even then, I can always go back to the average or flawed games that I skipped over. :D

2009 numbers.

The year 2009 was a great year for my Xbox 360. It saw so many great games and this was the first time that I played any DLC. Now to me, beating a DLC should be included in the list of completion as long as there is a story to complete. And, I don't care if anyone disagrees cause this is my list.

2009 however did start with a major distraction, WoW. The second expansion was only two months old and I was also jobless at this time. No job and WoW together make for a massive time burner.

In the first month of the year, I complete just one game, thats it. Then boom, WoW took a break and I finished five in February. Then I was back for good in March with ten. Anyway, lets get to the list.

Year: 2009

Games completed - 80

50 Cent: Blood on the Sand - Finished twice, solo and with a friend, actually not a bad game at all and I'm on 50 fan.

Aegis Wing

Afro Samurai

Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts - Pretty fun to build vehicles.

Batman: Arkham Asylum - I thought it was overhyped and pretty limited.

Battlestations: Pacific

Bejeweled 2

Borderlands - Awesome game and I can't wait for the second one next year.

Borderlands: The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned

Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2

Crackdown - Thought it was a very fund game.

Damnation - Didn't want to play this junk but made a promise that I would do coop.

Dash of Destruction

Dirt - Great game.

Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard

Fable II: See the Future

Fallout 3

Fallout 3: Broken Steel

Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage

Fallout 3: The Pitt

Fear 2

Feeding Frenzy

Feeding Frenzy 2

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 - Got it to play with my brother during Turkey day.

Zuma

So yeah, a very big year for my xbox 360. Countless hours and for the most of them, very enjoyable hours. I really took the time in 2009 to look at a game before I played it. Game play videos became the most important thing to me because 9/10 times, I can tell if I'm going to enjoy a game if I see it in action.

As in 2008, the last two months of 2009 saw only a few games get played. I had just moved into a rental house and after so many games, I think I was also a bit burnt out after playing so much.

2008 numbers.

I've been meaning to do something like this but always forgot. I thought I start with the first Xbox 360 year and make a blog for each year after. Fun way to kill time. I will list the games that I completed and that I didn't complete and will list comments next to any game that I can think of from back then.

Year: 2008 *purchased the Xbox 360 near the end of May*

Games completed - 47

Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation

Army of Two - I actually completed this game three times. Solo and with two different friends.

Battlefield: Bad Company - I still say this was better then the second one.

Blazing Angels 2

Burnout Paradise - Awesome game, I still mad that I lost my save.

Call of Duty 3

Call of Duty 5: World at War

Civilization Revolution - I'm still hoping they make another one.

Conan

Dark Sector

Devil May Cry 4 - Took a lot of will power to finish this snore.

Dragonball Z: Burst Limit

Fable II - First game I've ever pre-ordered.

Fable II Pub Games

So there you have it, a total of 59 games that I played in 2008. I remember that I would be constanly playing. I would even wake up early during the week to play that extra hour. Guess I was trying to get caught up but found out that you can never get caught up, there will always be games in the back log.

In 2008, the second WoW expansion came out and I got all caught up in that. That came out Nov 13th and after that date, I completed two games and stopped playing another. That lasted well into 2009 if I recall right but thats for another blog. So yeah, wonder how many more I could of completed had it not been for that cursed WoW. But hey, always good to take a break.
