If Dan and Jeff had their way and Red Dead 2 had Just Cause like player movement and you could transition off the horse like you can transition between vehicles in The Crew, it would be the worst game of all time. It's just baffling to me that they can't understand how the deliberate player movement and animations are deeply connected to how grounded and immersive the game feels, and that it would fall apart if you could bunnyhop around in the world. Completely baffling.
I'm right there with you. Even if you moved at something near the speed of AC games it would completely ruin the game. I think the gameplay in RDR2 services everything else it is doing and is in a good spot.
As a side note, It seems to me these two place everything that is not gameplay as an order of magnitude less important. It is really annoying when they say "The video game part of it it isn't good" or whatever. The whole thing is the video game part. The art, story, world, all of it. Video games are often much more than just gameplay.
As much as I enjoyed Tetris Effect it seems insane to me for a very stylish (and good) Tetris game to win GoTY when games like RDR2 and GoW came out. Y'all are crazy, but I still love you. Another great year for Giant Bomb!
It seems odd to me that we have such a significant amount of the crew who thought GoW combat was mediocre or got tiresome quickly. I don't think there has ever been a game where just fucking hitting dudes felt so good. It makes me question if I could ever trust Brad, Alex, and Jeff on any combat opinions going forward in this style of game. As far as I know they could say a game has weak combat, but it is actually GoW levels good.
