It seemed kind of odd to me that the crew was equating the whole arenanet thing to fans just going after devs they disagree with. People weren't mad at Price for disagreeing with them, they were mad at her for attacking a community member. Those are two very different things.
@nietzschecookie: What...? No it doesn't. Just because you your job description doesn't involve you dealing directly with customers doesn't mean your employer will be cool with you attacking them on social media. The word customer here is super relevant to everything.
People need to stop using the word customer. Full stop. Volunteering in your workplace to do an AMA doesn't magically transform your job title into that of 'customer service'. I buy plenty of things, i don't expect the person who built my car or designed the iphone X or came up with a new flavour of oreo or (on and on for every item that exists adding up to billions of people) to be subservient to my every query or confusion if i meet them on the street or reach out to them on instagram out of nowhere, no matter how many reddit AMAs they do.
I don't think anyone has been implying her job is customer service or that she had to be subservient to every query.
I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for Price. Her responses in that thread were completely awful. Yeah it might be a bit extreme to fire her, but I am sure many of us would get canned too if we went on twitter and started arguing with or accusing, well-meaning, polite customers of the companies we work for as being sexist. On top of that arenanet prides themselves on being very close and open with their community, so obviously this shit is not going to fly.
@ilserpente: If you look at his degree which he posted on twitter, Theatre and Film is the major. Bachelor of General Studies is just an alternative to Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science.
