Google Stardew Valley Wineskin. It work's for both Steam and GOG (the version I'm using).
Here's a link to the official forum post. Works likes a dream if you follow the instructions.
Anyone here currently running Stardew on a Mac with this? How's that experience been? I've been very close to buying, but it's such a perfect game for a laptop that I've been holding off for a MAC release.
I've been playing on a mid-2012 low end MacBook Pro (2.5 GHz i5, integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics card, Yosemite) and have had no issues beyond some wonkiness during the Winetricks installation which I suspect are down to some of the drivers being redundant - those problems never crop up again. It runs great and is very resource un-intensive, though you'll probably want a real mouse since right click is a huge part of the interface. If you want to go that route, go with the GOG version. Steam through Wineskin is doable but has unnecessary added hassle.
Dan, thank you so much for beating the drum repeatedly on this one. Unlike yourself, I've played so many Harvest Moon (and now Story of Seasons) games that I felt exhausted by the formula, and I was pretty skeptical about Stardew Valley actually living up to the hype. Hearing you talk it up on the Bombcast tipped me over into buying it, and, well, this glowing review is 100% deserved. Absolutely fantastic game.
These incremental hardware proposals always seem to ignore how conservative the larger games development space is. Budgets are ballooning and then the expectation is that these developers will magically opt-in to ignoring large swaths of the potential audience to take full advantage of the newer hardware? Sounds more like a recipe for being permanently stuck in that ugly quagmire near the end of a console generation where everything has to come out on every system and its successor and nothing looks or runs as well as it could.
So, basically, I'm incredibly skeptical of the viability of these sorts of plans until I see them pan out otherwise. And, of course, assuming the unnamed sources are even accurate.
