u cant shoryu out of a light punch block string if u r punching fast enough(unless your cammy or ryu). And last time Edma and JR played JR won most of the rounds then *disconnected*  so maybe you should try what works, If you arent using the tools the game is giving you then (like mashing out demons)your just cheating yourself. btw he also beats ultima and westab most of the times he plays them.

In this case, i support jr. if you aren't confident in your block strings then back the hell off. you are right about him not being able to pull this off at a pro tournament, but that's because those guys rarely miss their links

I agree that mashing sucks. I used to do it all the time and could basicaly only beat better players because I did it. I don't do it anymore though. The reason it's only done online is because if you're in an arcade or round a friend's house and you see someone mashing the joystick and spamming the button then that person gets no respect for the win because it takes a great deal of skill to do these 1 frame links yet no skill at all to mash whatever you're doing and FADC into ultra or land a demon and do 60% damage. So I totally agree with Stang and that's why I think he's such a good player because he could beat me every time only by using tactics and predicting and not mashing even though I would mash at every chance I could. I'd sometimes get off a SRK between his links and do a bit of damage but he still beat me because he learnt the game far better then I did.
 
Online no one can see or hear what you're doing so people don't care what they think of them so they mash. Then it becomes a game of stopping your link shorter then you would normaly because you know the other player is just mashing so you block his SRK and punish. That's no fun at all because unless you've got a link down 100% and spent hours in training mode perfecting it and the latency is perfect then the game penalizes you for exploring combos in a match because if you get it slightly wrong you get a SRK in the face. That why I think some shotos are so popular for begginner and amatuer players, because you can mash like crazy and get damage you'd not be able to get with a charge character. Which is a shame because charge characters can be some of the most interesting to fight.

Stang how bout you go play JR in person. He doesnt live that far from you seeing as you are both in Cali. How bout you go to a tournament like I have been telling you for weeks and duke it out there for real. Maybe even put some money on the line.

Yeah, he learned to stop trying to sweep me after the first match or so, and I kept doing it because I was always down so much. But yeah, I very rarely did combos that finished with a Somersault Kick or Sonic Boom because of I knew he was trying to mash through it. This is probably why it's a good idea for me to learn some of his more powerful three-hit combos instead of the jab combos. Though ideally, being mashed through my weak links hasn't really been a problem for me so far, except this one time, haha.

And yeah, I generally don't do a lot of wake up Somersault Kicks, but like I mentioned, I was always down so much and he was always using those Dive Kicks that I kept thinking it would hit in front of me and not slightly behind. I don't know why, but I can't get j.FK > c.MP > SK to work. It's like the Somersault Kick doesn't have enough time to charge or something. I'll probably mess around with possible combos in Training Mode.

Dude, you're not bad. You put up a pretty good fight. We did similar things like wake-up anti airs and spent more time blocking him then going offensive.
 
And yeah, it seems like you tried to keep your distance a little bit as well. It looks like those Dive Kicks were getting you too. The only tip I have for you is to focus on doing smaller combos and then jumping back out and getting out of dodge.

Lol. He mashed like crazy in the first 30 seconds and you exposed it amazingly by stopping your links like you do. It's painful at 2:40 when you can hear him mashing like there's no tomorrow. Good fights, though. I think you'd take him in a local match unless he has as little dignity as he does online and mashes like that face to face.

That means so much to me, considering we have yet to see any footage of you fighting.  @Stang:  I kept looking for opportunities to hit him with a Step Side Kick or a Spinning Backfist, but he's a jumpy fucker, haha, and so that was near impossible. I actually think a Step Side Kick would actually stuff a Raging Demon if he tried it. I didn't actually try that though. Anyway, we're honestly not that bad. He is a pro level player and if we were at least able to hang in there a bit, that's a testament to how hard we've worked to get good. "

I like how the status in this forum has almost exclusively become, "either put up footage of yourself fighting, or have somebody record your match, or shut up about making fun of other players."

haha. Too bad im not an attention or status whore but im up for a fight anytime no matter who it is honestly. I play with an Xbox controller and I have no complaints. =|

I noticed that too, in the first round alone Stang stopped his link and JR just whiffed a huge SRK (mashingggggggg) and Stang punished accordingly. I agree with the whole local match thing tho. "
