If anyone is curious as to why they pronounce Ryo awkwardly, it is because in Japanese there are not separate L and R sounds. There is one sound which is kind of halfway between the two (try saying a R and L sound at the same time). In English we have to choose one of the two letters because we lack the L/R hybrid consonant.

Man it would have been nice if they actually read the how to play instead of just skimming it.
