Honestly don't want this to come off as negative, but I think Alex's frustrations of this game are self inflicted. I never came across camera troubles or buttons not responding any time I've ever played SMS.
Pro tips for FLUDD use, by back flipping while spraying water acts like a shotgun or clicking halfway as you jump, it covers a spread area, does a lot of damage to enemies, and tends to be one of the faster ways to clean goop other than the spinning spray.
Getting coins to refill health is easier than running around the level looking for them. The small blobs that spawn in the goop can be jumped on and they will drop coins.
Rocket pack is really useful for getting around some slightly weird platforming sections by using that whole jump out of water just as you hit the full charge.
To go real fast you should spray water before you use the B dash/roll.
Good ol' Nintendo Power, I remember doing those sweepstakes things in multiple issues. I got the chain chomp soccer ball, and maybe a few other second place items.
Man, Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is SO under appreciated for being a great game. Weirdly unrelated to this podcast I've going down the rabbit-hole of Goemon games that never got released in America. I wish I could actually get the time to learn Japanese so I could play them/understand them. Too bad about Konami that no one will get a new Goemon game...
Nemesis system would work great in roguelites. Each run would have strong enemies carry over to balance the whole gaining new upgrades that pass along.
