Alan Wake

Just finished this on normal and I'm not sure how I feel about it. On the one hand the combat and animation were horrible, but the rest of it is super awesome. I feel like the ending really leaves something to be desired though, at least on this first play through. I have little to no idea what the hell happened. Thinking I'll definitely go back and clear up some achievements though, as I'm a completionist and not too keen to get back to FF13 just yet. The TV shows are hilarious, best one is definitely the temporal immortality one.

Why did Turn Based Combat Have to die?

I'm feeling down. It's old news but I'd held hope that turn based games could survive, rise up like a phoenix. Now I realize that's not gonna happen. The once great giants have caved in from the pressure, leaving only a few gems to be shattered. Eventually they will succumb to lack of funds and take the hint that nobody wants to take time to plan. No one wants to have time to breath. Players don't want the ability/requirement to control the flow of battle. Then they'll be gone, and I'll be left alone to replay SNES games that I've already played 15 times.

Oh well. At least there's still Atlus. Maybe they can hang on.

Meta gaming

This quest thing is a pretty great idea. It can be used for good as well as for evil. It's evil in that its a giant time suck. It's also awesome in that it can draw attention to weak pages that could use attention. Not even intentionally. My first assumption as I fill out my first list and surf around the site is that the games I love will be on here and have some basic info. Then I realize I'm likely the only person who cares about the existence of Rex Ronan: Experimental Surgeon. Now I feel like contributing to the site more, which is sure to be an avalanche like process, starting small and getting crazier. All that inspired by giant bomb offering to increase an arbitrary number in a database that means nothing in real world terms. Yet even though it isn't real I still do it because I'll be damned if some random other guy has a bigger number than me.
