I never really understood people jumping on the fighting game community bandwagon when it comes to every single fighting game.
Oh, this game sucks because the fighting game community doesn't like it.
Unless you're a part of that scene, why does it matter if those guys think a game is good or not? Those guys are analyzing games on a level that the average person can't come close to comprehending. Not every game needs to be tournament worthy.
Why not say the same for other genres? Oh, Killzone shadowfall isn't going to be played by the MLG guys and it won't be at any tournaments for shooters. That must mean it sucks, right? If the hardcore shooter players don't think it's worthy, then it's not worth my time.
I've seen enough at this point that KI seems interesting. I don't care that it may not be perfectly balanced or that it wont be played in tournaments. The combo system seems well thought out and the little touches like the music make it interesting.
it's also free to try and $20 if you want to commit. That seems more than fair for what it is.
