It'd be kind of difficult to constantly have him plug into an animus to retrieve the past, never BEING the character, wouldn't it? It seems like we'd constantly go round and round, with no conclusion, if we live through his ancestors.

I'm also uncertain of Desmond's current time having any parallel to what we know as modern day. Has there been anything definitively shown of it? We just get glimpses.
