Chicagoland Duders! Looking to start a "Game Club".

So, as I mentioned in my previous blog post, I am thinking about getting a sort-of "Game Club" together, where we will play a game together, then get together once a month at a bar or something and talk about it. Anyway, I figure Giant Bomb is the best place to find some people for this, so if you live in or near Chicagoland (I am in Schaumburg), reply to this and/or PM me, and we can talk about details. Hopefully something downright awesome can come of this!

P.S. 21 and up please!

Is anyone involved in a actual Game Club?

I don't really have any friends that are big gamers, and I always want to get together and talk about games with people. So I was thinking about starting a Game Club type thing where, just like in a book club, once a month a group of people get together (actually get together, like at a bar or something) and talk about their experience playing through a suggested game. Is there anyone out there that is a part of something like this? If not, do you guys think something like this would be fun?

Looking for a good productivity iPhone app

Does anyone know a good productivity app for the iPhone? I am looking for a really good scheduler, preferably with alerts and/or push notifications when a event is nearing. Free would be preferred, but if it's not free, a lite version would be nice. Thanks!

I never got into fighting games...

Because I am TERRIBLE at them. Last time I tried to play MK II with a friend of mine, I just got murdered. I would really like to play SSFIV and MvC3, but I want to be GOOD at fighting games first. Any advice out there? Are there any fighting games in particular that are good at teaching a doofus like me how to play?

Rock Band Network Trial...?

So, I am very interested in trying my hand at authoring RBN songs, but I am not sure if I would like it or be good at it. Does anyone know if you can try it out for free before buying the membership? I have easy access to masters of a pretty popular Chicago band, and would like to give it a shot...

Tipping Etiquette

So, I am a in-home technician for a cable company, and from time to time, I get tips. Generally, the people that tip aren't the "well to-do" but the people that really don't have much. I almost always politely refuse to take their money, and the almost always shove it in my tool bag or front pocket of my shirt. I am super appreciative of their gestures, I just feel bad about taking their money when they don't seem to have much to begin with. Anyhow, to the point: yesterday I was working, and got $15 in tips from 2 different customers who INSISTED I take their money. Then, my last job of the day was at a big-ass house, dude was driving a Range Rover, just got back from golfing, that kind of shit. Anyhow, I busted my ASS at this house. Their cable was FUCKED UP and I got it all working for them after maybe 2 hours. I tell the guy to have a nice evening and walk out the door. I am halfway to my truck when he comes outside and says "Oh, I guess I should give you this." and tries to hand me a $10 bill. Now, no matter what the situation, unless your job is something that relies on tips (waitress, bartender, etc.), I feel like it is just good etiquette to politely refuse the tip once. ONCE. Then, as is almost always the case for me, the customer will say something like "Oh no, I insist!", at which point I take their money and say thank you. So I do. I say "Oh, you don't have to do that." fully expecting him to insist, at which point I will take the money. But this guy just says, "No? OK. Have a nice night." and goes back inside. I was kind of stunned. Especially for a guy as well off as this dude was, I feel like it would be nothing for him to insist that I take his $10. As an aside, people with money almost NEVER tip, which to me is kinda crazy. Anyhow, my question is am I crazy for assuming that it is somewhat of a unspoken rule that when someone offers you a tip you say no once? I have always done that, and everyone else has always insisted. I never expect tips at my job, this situation just made me question shit. Also, I didn't mean to make this so long, sorry.

I'm now a member!

Just got a yearly membership and totally stoked about it! Very happy to give these dudes some cash to support the craziness. I really think this is the best way to offer good content to your members. Other game sites are so dirty and busy and laggy from ads and other such bullshit, but the Whiskey sites are clean and esay to read without all that crapola. Great job guys and keep it up! And if you love what these guys do, get a damn membership already!

Why do I love Mass Effect but can't get into Dragon Age?

I just tried playing Dragon Age last week, and couldn't even get more and 2 hours in. While I was putting the game back into the GameFly envelope, I was trying to figure out why I don't like DA at all, but I LOVE Mass Effect. Then I was reminded of a very similar situation: I LOVE Fallout 3 but I couldn't stand Elder Scrolls. My first thought was that maybe I just don't like fantasy settings, but LOTR are some of my favorite movies/books. I enjoy other fantasy things as well. So what is it about these games? Does anyone else have this same conundrum?
