One thing I will say about the weapon customisation mechanics, swapping weapons is one of the fastest actions you can do. With judicious stealing you can craft elemental weapons for your physical attackers and get easy peasy 1.5x damage for easy overkills and most of the time double AP and drops.

It also makes Spherimorph a pushover when you can have your 3 physical attackers hitting his weaknesses.

it's at this point where I wonder how much your mentor will keep you to the critical path, because some of the background and answers are at least attempted to address, but it's just in side areas that I never found on my first playthrough
also, I'm gonna be honest, I never saw that particular bit of moomba info in the information part of the menu, I always just assumed they looked alike enough in the abstraction of the game world and the moombas saw the resemblance

have you run away from many battles/will you be going for chicken knife or brave blade?

black mage, bard, samurai, and dancer/samurai/chemist/dragoon? what a party for wrecking the fiesta!
don't forget to buy fire rings for healing!

many final fantasy games (like vii and viii) for me have a sine curve of how I feel about them over time (some like ffix don't because they are always good), anyway, ffviii when it hits, it hits high

one thing to reduce your insanity, I find it preferable to just physically attack or use the magic command than to summon, simply because of the animation time (and if you have a good Str-J or Mag-J you'll deal more damage anyway), you may have to heal slightly more, but you will go less crazy. Also you are at the point where you can increase your salary by doing the seed tests in the menu, so look those up and money won't be an issue for buying potions

if you are dead set on summoning, there is a boost ability that I don't want to know how badly is implemented in the pc version, which is another reason to drop the summoning

also, there are two pages of abilities on the GFs if the controls have obscured this, and several GFs have refining abilities where you can turn common drops into magic, learn those ASAP to avoid draw-grinding
