@masonmjames: It doesn't take that much to get into! I was in your shoes about 4-5 months ago... had tried PoE when it first came out and found it overwhelming, then tried several times over the years and never made it past Act 1.
The thing that really cracked it for me was finding a stable build guide (Enki's Arc Witch was what did it for me) that was well written and gave lots of information for what you should be doing and more importantly WHY you would be doing it. Having the guesswork taken out of my build and routing let me really focus on learning the game without getting overwhelmed by systems or the skill tree was awesome.
With the basics down, I've gotten to spend time in this league playing around with the deeper features in the endgame and am having a blast.
