Never have I been more blown away by game, Uncharted 2 is amazing from start to finish. It's got phenomenal action, great voice acting, a fantastic multiplayer component, and the best graphics ever featured this generation.
As a Batman fan I can seriously appreciate this game's attention to detail in terms of story and characters, but I can appreciate even more as a fantastic game that would make the Dark Knight cry. With a compelling story, fantastic setting, great combat, intense stealth sequences and Mark Hamil, Batman: Arkham Asylum is a real winner.
I never played either of the Baulder's Gate games, but after playing Dragon Age: Origins, I think I might have to. Even though the gameplay is old school, it's still a nice change from RPG's like Fallout 3, Mass Effect and the endless waves of Diablo rip-offs. While the plot is relativity unoriginal, the characters and scenarios you get wrapped up in are totally compelling and make the best RPG of the year.
Shadow Complex might actually be the most fun out of all the games from 2009. Its gameplay style is something that hasn't really been experimented with a new independent property in a while, and that's what makes it feel fresh. The constant quest for upgrades and items make it one of the most addicting games of the year.
As a Grand Theft Auto game released after the brilliant Grand Theft Auto 4, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is still incredible, and favorably compares to its 2008 counterpart. It has a pretty good story, and a really good use of the DS's bottom screen, but the best part about Chinatown Wars is that it's a lot of fun. And while it's scaled down, it doesn't feel stripped down.
I enjoyed the original Assassin's Creed just barley enough to play through it, and didn't really think much of it after it ended, but Assassin's Creed 2 manages to fix all of the original's problems and make for one of the most memorable experiences of the year. This time around the game has great mission structures, a cool new character, and awesome gameplay additions that make it an incredibly refined experience.
Modern Warfare 2 made good on a lot of its potential, it has fun and crazy campaign, fantastic and addicting competitive multiplayer, and an intense cooperative mode. Shooting bad guys is a lot of fun and Modern Warfare 2 has some of the best set piece battles I've seen in a game. It also has a great use of facial hair.
I'll admit, I wasn't impressed with InFamous when I first played it, I thought it was a second rate open world game with super powers. While I was correct in saying it was an open world game with super powers, it certainly isn't second rate. InFamous has great action with tons of awesome explosions. It also has a great morality system that actually changes the gameplay up and can make the story drastically different. InFamous is a ton of fun and is another great reason to own a PS3.
Killzone 2's greatest strength is that it feels different from other first person shooters, it's a dirty, ugly, and bloody game that has a great dark setting and a great campaign. Killzone 2 is a great action game with satisfying weapons and shooting that make its set piece focused shooting a lot of fun.
