Well to be honest, a lot of the time if you state your opinion and don't state it's your opinion some idiot will come along and start yelling at you about it only being your opinion and you're stating it as fact.
Well, whenever I say it, its just to emphasise the fact that it is actually my opinion and this way specific people (normally fanboys) wont rant about how wrong I am.
@Everyones_A_Critic: Abbreviations in general piss me off, "OMG LULZ IMO FTW" is my attempt at humour. If you thought I was serious when saying that, then the joke must not be working...

no. its only a fact when it is stated to be one. then you can correct someone and say thats your opinion. but saying, IMO...yada yada. its like apologizing to those who disagree before you make you statement. its also totally redundant. i know its your opinion. you're the one saying it.

I don't think you understood my post...a lot of idiots will start yelling at you telling you THAT'S ONLY YOUR OPINION! if you don't state it's your opinion in the first post, and I don't feel like arguing with those people.
Clearly most people don't understand its an opinion, which is why other people use it. If it were understood it never would have been made popular to begin with.
I always feel like typing IMO is a way of being polite on the net.
Game X is bad, in my opinion.
When I type it I feel I'm bracing the other person. I'm helping them so they don't feel a bit worse. It's a shame that it is almost required on the net, but most people act the completely opposite way on the net anyways.
Too many people force their fanboyism on others. 'IMO' is the antithesis of that attitude.

*notices this post, whistles a tune and walks past it* :P
I must say, I hate it when people say IMO too. It's fairly obvious when you are stating opinion rather than fact. But I can understand why people do it. They do it to stop an even more annoying thing - when you don't say IMO, and someone else comes along and says "Well that's only your opinion". I fucking know it's my opinion. That's why I fucking said it. It's fucking obvious that what I said wasn't a fact, and thus it must be a fucking opinion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have nothing wrong with people who occasionally use the phrase 'imo' but it does annoy me when people repeat it over and over and over. Yet it also bothers me when people start bashing anyone who doesn't put 'imo' before their opinions and assume anything without 'imo' in front of it is being stated as fact. I don't blame anyone for frquently using 'imo', with the kind of ridiculous arguments I've seen against people who don't constantly use 'imo' in front of every second sentence, but I don't honestly think it's necessary.
You may be smart enough to realize this, but it seems that most people aren't that smart. :P "
Yeah. I can't stand when people say "STOP STATING YOUR OPINION AS FACT". What am I suppose to say? "Well, IMO, I hope you guys don't mind me saying, I kinda like this game a little. I hope I'm not offending anyone" No, I'm going to say. "Hey, that game is good. You're wrong" like a normal goddamn person. "
You're supposed to say "I disagree" instead of "You're wrong".
How the hell can someone stating that a comment is their opinion annoy you? We're on the internet, most of the times typing that is necessary. Either inserting "imo" or typing "I think..." before a statement.
ive ALWAYS felt uneasy about "imo", not because it means In My Opinion but it just never felt right! doesnt belong to the cool set of internet words...
sometimes its important to say 'in my opinion' so you wont sound like a dictator
