You know, the fandom of this community can be very weird.

The degree to which some people latch on to the GB team, who are essentially just regular people, and view them as almost Christ like figures can be quite creepy. This is in addition to trying to micromanage and psychologically profile each member of the team and their strengths and weaknesses as if you know them personally.

TL;DR take a step back and actually think about what you're chatting on about.

Dan, i'm not trying to be mean, but just stay away from history as a topic; simplistic, action movie, black/white logic just doesn't work and it's veeeery easy to piss off people (for real, not in a fun trolly way)

@wagrid: I'm sorry but why are you speaking for Europe as a whole and not just for the UK? WW1 is taught and remembered very differently from what you are saying in other european countries (and Napoleon too), beyond the tragic nature of it.

Have to agree with @cagliostro88 sometimes if you don't know anything about a subject, remaining quiet is a perfectly valid response, you cannot apply 'wrestling' and 'brands' to every philosophical problem.

I sadly have to agree as well. This was a bit of old Dan coming out. The expression of strong opinions about topics where the opinion holder is clearly ignorant can be funny on certain topics, but when talking about a millions of dead people, not so much. All the more so when talking about millions of dead people in a conflict that as far as I can tell, didn't have a great reason to happen beyond a bunch of nations building up big armies so as to not be outdone by other armies, and then deciding to use them.

I should add I am not really opposed to the game, but totally agree that the trailer is a bit disconnected with the somber history I associate with WW1. Part of me wants to think it includes in the parts that the camera is clearly supposed to be a POV a lot of destruction and menace outside of the agency of the POV character as a reference to the nature of WWI, but I may be being too generous.

Wait, what was the part people were taking issue with from Dan? I'm usually the first one to put Dan on blast when he doesn't know some basic adult knowledge ("What is imperialism?"), but listening through the Battlefield 1/World War 1 discussion, he didn't say anything wildly ignorant, or try to make the Americans out to be the good guys that saved the day or anything. It sounded like pretty much all the staff acknowledged they don't know shit about a lot of conflict relative to Europeans, with maybe Brad and Drew knowing a few more specifics about the scale of its impact.

I am not exactly fiercely patriotic and reverent for old wars, however the idea that World War One was a small none issue and World War Two was the big one that mattered caused me some problems. If you gave me the choice of fighting in WW1 or WW2 I'd pick WW2 every time because from what I learned WW1 sounds like the definition of hell, e.g. the Somme.

It's just a shame that people aren't aware of the massive clusterfuck tragedy of WW1. Obviously the holocaust was equally as horrific, but that wasn't part of "The War" but a product of the Nazi regime.
