In my first 'real' college level programming class, the professor handed out the first assignment and said that we would be programming a 'push-down automaton', which simply meant that we would be developing a program to push and pop a stack. So to that end, you could study some data structures (stacks, queues, b-trees, etc.) and the basic ways that you manipulate them.

I'm very partial to a well-made Manhatten (rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, bitters) or a Sidecar (brandy, triple sec, lemon juice). I also like a nice Mint Julep (muddle some mint leaves with sugar and a small amount of water, then add bourbon and ice); very refreshing on a hot summer day, as is a nice gin and tonic with a small squeeze of lime. Just for straight drinkin', few things satisfy like really good tequila.

What do you mean, you can't fix it? You're the computer guy. Aren't you omnipotent? Can't you be at 3 places at the same time and do 5 things at once? Don't you understand that I need this thing now and I'm the most important person on the planet and if you don't fix it right now the world will end? What is WRONG with you???!!?!?

Just for the record, the average intelligence of the everyday office worker is not declining; it was never very high to begin with.

We don't typically play games together, not because one of us doesn't like to play, more because the types of games we like to play don't have co-op. Mostly, we've played things like Rock Band, Wii Sports Resort, Tiger Woods Golf, that sort of thing. We're planning on playing the new Splinter Cell together, though. That should be fun.

Our ancestral clan motto is 'Aut Pax Aut Bellum' (either peace or war). Our personal family motto is: 'think of all the things that wouldn't get done if it weren't for the last second".

Richard Garriott is getting into Facebook gaming as well. I find it a little odd that he's decided to start with a poker game, since there's about a bazillion of those on Facebook already, but then again I'm not a games industry genius. I dislike Facebook games in general because most of them are just a random number generator with a pretty wrapper. Many are also pretty pushy about getting you to part with your money or to recruit strangers as your in-game friends. But there are a few that are fun enough to play for 5-10 minutes a couple of times a day. I don't know that the platform will every really be used for 'serious' gaming since Facebook itself imposes certain limitations on the developers and what they can really do, but it'll be interesting to see what happens with the Civ game.

It's a play on my user name. It's a photo of Patsy Cline, who had a very popular song in the '50s called 'Walking After Midnight'.

A job.

Seriously, the pocket watch is cool. Maybe they could get it engraved for you with your graduation date and get a nice presentation case for it.

It's the fabric. The material used for women's underwear is thinner and more see-through. The material used for swimsuits is thicker and more opaque. It's a matter of feeling more covered even though the same amount of skin is exposed.

Remove or unplug everything (including the memory) except for the CPU fan and see if you get a POST error. If not, then you can try pulling the CPU as well, if it's accessible. If you still don't get a POST error, then the motherboard is dead. If you do get an error then start adding things back one at a time, starting with the memory, until the system stops working again. Since the video card fan is revving so high you can try shotgunning it by just pulling the video card and see if that does the trick.
