" I'm sure this will get appealed to the Supreme Court.  Until then, don't care. "
Actually, you might want to care. One likely way that this could play out is that the resellers decide that it's cheaper to negotiate some kind of resale royalty rather than fight it in the courts. They'll just pass those royalty costs along to you, the consumer.

" I don't see this increasing piracy very much since the people who trade in games rather than sell them on their own behalf obviously aren't too concerned with the amount they receive in return. Seems to me that people who legitimately purchase now would only be motivated to pirate games if they felt the inability to trade their new copies in would mean they couldn't buy as many as they'd like. I'd imagine most people would sooner turn to selling their used games themselves than pirate them, unless they were drawn towards piracy in the first place. Regardless this seems like an unusual decision for a court to reach. I don't see how copyrights for games should be treated any differently to those for music and movies. "
Actually, that's one of the logical extensions of this ruling and the reason that the MPAA backed the software publishers in the fight. Music, movie and book publishers could begin selling their product under licensing agreements as well. The music and film industry have been trying to crush used CD/DVD sales for 20+ years now, this would seem to finally give them that ability.

For those who don't know, the First Sale Doctrine of US copyright law states that if you own a copy of a copyrighted work, you can sell that copy without the permission of the copyright holder. The law was first written in 1909 and applied to books and magazines but has been extended over the years to include music, movies and software. On Friday, a three-judge panel in the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that software sold under a licensing agreement isn't covered by the First Sale Doctrine and may not be resold. Lots of software, including games, is already sold under licensing agreements and those titles that aren't could be changed pretty easily. All of this basically means that, if the ruling stands, it could become illegal to buy and sell used games and Gamestop would have at least half their business cut out from under them. Congress could enact legislation to change things but at the pace they move, that could take a really long time. It seems to me that without a legal used games market, piracy would get a lot worse. The media companies that pushed for this ruling are obviously hoping to generate more revenue by forcing more new product sales but I think they're just shooting themselves in the foot.

What do you say, people? If Gamestop didn't exist, what would you do? Would you turn to illegal means, simply play fewer games, rent more games instead, play the same number and find some way to suck up the cost? Something else?

Ben Folds just got done playing, KT Tunstall is supposed to be on now but seems to be having technical difficulties. Imogen Heap is supposed to be there but is caught in a hurricane; no word so far about when/if she might be there. It apparently is being recorded so people that come late can see the whole thing.

Actually you do have recourse: it's called Small Claims Court. It'll cost you a little to file the suit but just the threat may be enough to get your money back.

Some hand and wrist exercises can also help but don't overdo it. Stretch just to the point of it being comfortable and not painful.

" I honestly don't think it's a good idea to try to 'get her' into gaming. If she isn't that interested in it, don't force her. "
If she was going to "get into games", she would have already. At best you'll find a couple more games that she enjoys, but you're not going to change what she likes or dislikes and you're not a very good boyfriend if you're trying.  Why not try taking more interest in things she's already into instead of trying to make her like the things that you like? Or just find a new girlfriend that you have more in common with. "
Rofl well said man this is what I'm thinking, don't force people to do things. "
He isn't holding a gun to her head and forcing her. There is a huge difference between that and just sharing something you enjoy doing with someone close to you. All the girls I know don't exactly welcome the thought of playing games, but I bet a fair few would enjoy them and maybe even get into them if introduced by somebody.  Suggestions wise? As patronising as it may sound mainly easy, simple games. All Nintendo products come to mind... "
The OP already said his girlfriend currently plays games just not enough games or the kind of games he would prefer that she play. If she wanted to play more games or a different kind of game, she would. I'm assuming that she's not an idiot and would seek out more games if she actually wanted to.   It's like saying how do I get my girlfriend into watching action movies. "She watches them sometimes, and enjoys a few, but not the ones I really like. How do I change her opinion so she'll come see more of the movies I like instead of just the ones she wants to?" If you want to date a girl who's into something (ie, games) than date a girl who's into it. Don't try and change someone into the person you'd prefer them to be. "
There's nothing wrong with saying, "Hey this is a good game, why don't you try it". I thought I didn't like shooters until my husband suggested I try Half LIfe. I ended up playing through 3 times and I really love shooters now (well, OK, not Gears so much; just couldn't get into that one for some reason). It sounds like the OP's girlfriend already likes games but isn't so into it that she's motivated to wade through the thousands of releases out there to find the good ones. If that's the case then its perfectly reasonable for him to suggest some games that she might like. It's true that you're not in a relationship to change the other person but it's also true that good relationships involve a certain amount of give and take. Part of being a good SO is suggesting things that you honestly think the other person will like (or might not like but are important to you) while being open-minded enough to honestly try things that are suggested to you. After they've given it an honest try, don't take it personally if the other person says "No, thanks".

2 months. I worked day shift at a video store where literally no one would come in for hours on end, you weren't allowed to sit down for the entire shift, and you weren't allowed to watch movies. By the time I quit I was the most senior employee after the store manager.
