Ryan, you will be missed, I never had the opportunity to meet Ryan in person, was always too busy. But the interactions I had with Ryan meant a lot. The Bombcast made me and many others feel like they were hanging out with people that were just as passionate as us.
34 is too soon, and just married to boot.
My thoughts and feelings go out to Vinny, Alexis, Drew, Dave, and Jeff, who I hope are having a drink and remembering Ryan. Patrick who must feel awful mourning the 1 year anniversary of his fathers death, only to lose Ryan and be so far away from the rest of the GB crew. And Anna going from freshly wed to widow, I never knew her but if Ryan loved her then she must be an amazing person indeed.
There are things to remember. There are 2 tablets, one that is Windows 8 RT & one that is Full Windows 8 Pro.
The RT tablet(arm) will in theory be between 500-700 price matched to iPad, and will come with MS Office, also USB 2
The other is Windows 8 Pro Tablet(core i5 Ivy Bridge), probably 800-1400 (think macbook air).
Also some other points of thought:
RT Tablet will run all XNA developed games, Skulls of the shogun, maybe FEZ.
Windows 8 Pro tablet will run ALL games. Also steam. Basically anything that will run on a MacBook Air, like Diablo 3.
This will be a Microsoft signature experience, so @Jayzilla 's comment that all windows OS's are clunky until you strip it to just windows, is not only redundant but self describing of a Stock Windows experience. No OEM bloatware, HP desktop helper LENOVO quick purchase, etc.
The determining factors are:
Price - being inline with iPad is ok, but REAL MS Office is a big sell. And Windows Pro is F'ing huge in enterprise, domain support and User & Group Policies are very important to corporate IT.
Battery Life - We can hope for iPad equivalent in the RT but for the Pro please 7+ Hours.
Ongoing support - Microsoft has a long history of making great products sidewinder and digital sound system that exist for one iteration get critical acclaim and then ... disappear
All signs point to The Pro being amazing, dependent on price. But it should be a Computer that happens to be a tablet. Not a tablet that hopes to be a computer.
Also, you do not file for copyright. You file for trademark. Copyright is granted on creation of IP. But never mind, probably a retarded guy at forbes. Plus you could not release a Callof Duty : *** game, since Call of Duty is a trademark of Activision. Also remember Activision filed trademarks for Guitar Villain and Drum Hero.
I agree with Ball_Sagoth. Don't get frustrated with an early death. One of the great things about Euro RPGs and specifically games from Piranha Bytes is that the world is not scaled to your character, If you go into a creepy ass cave there can and usually is a high level monster that will 1 shot you. The game world is not 100% clear-able at a characters natural level in any given zone, back tracking is necessary in this case. The scary thing to say is ... this game is far more newb friendly than previous. In Risen 1 you had the chance to fight monsters when you were level 2 with no armor and less weaponry that were still difficult for a level 16 character. The other big thing to take heed of is that combat skills in Piranha Bytes games makes your characters combat better. In Gothic 1 your base attack was a wild side to side / forward attack worthy of any 8 year old. In Risen your basic attack was a single sword blow. Combos came with more skill points. Same goes for sneaking you simply don't have the option to sneak until you train.
Is this unfair? NO. Is this Broken? NO. Is this different than a Bethesda Game? YES. But also realize that the Developers of Oblivion and Skyrim are big fans of Gothic and Risen, they love the factions, class branching and difficulty of the world.
Enough ranting. Success is easy enough. You can handle the game like Demon's/Dark Souls if you want. Take things slowly, Clear available quests and learn skills (combat more than others preferably) and progress. In this world exploration can be deadly.
