Most real sims live on the PC, beyond Forza and GT5 console only folks don't have much for choice.

The Genesis controllers had problems when dust and crap got on the pads that registered your Dpad movements. Cleaning them is somewhat easy, just irritating when you have to do it. I've never replaced a Xbox or PS controller, but the Analog Stick on the N64 controller and the absolutely AWFUL triggers on the Gamecube controllers always needed replacing.

It's not offensively bad, just not as great as what some of the reviews around release would have told you. It also had a really dull look to it sometimes, I've never been to New York City but from pictures most areas look a touch more colourful then what Liberty City looks like in GTA4.

@Ali_D:

MAG works on an even smaller scale then the original Planetside and considering the common framerate drops and concessions made visually and gameplay wise to get that game to work on the PS3...I really don't see it happening.

Planetside had some BIG battles, with far more going on then MAG. I could see a cut down console version being a more likely scenario then a cross platform situation. The Controller is far to slow, especially in these FPS situations.

@Korwin: I was thinking the same thing, some of the units on the field looked so expensive to lose too. The tank and the Command Ship especially.

CoD4 looks like shit compared to Modern Warfare 2, yet they run on the same engine. I think it's just safe to say that EP1 and EP2 are just iterative updates to the engine and will obviously look a touch better, only a year seperates both Left 4 Deads and yet the second one looks quite a bit better.

My point was mainly that the Facial Expressions and Lip Syncing no matter which version of Half Life 2 you're playing is still far better then most games today. Add in the varied gameplay, characters that aren't just cardboard standouts and amazing sound/music and you're left with a visual experience that like I said before still beats games like Killzone 3 and Halo Reach.

@TooWalrus:

Lol, yeah going after how Half Life 2 plays and then posting ocarina of time as a example of smooth gameplay is a great idea.  I loved Z targeting too, but I didn't kid myself and tell myself OoT played great.

@ The rest of you:

As far as how Half Life 2 looks by todays standards it's no front runner by any stretch of the imagination, but the expressions, lip syncing, voice over and believability of Valves characters still takes a colossal poop over anything else released in the last 5 years.  Whats better then Half life? Killzone? Halo? Neither one of those games comes close on many of the more important factors, and so  Half Life 2 is still king of the SP FPS.

Considering Confrontation was the closest we are ever going to get to going back to those warm fuzzy days of SOCOM 2, it has quite the negative rap.

-Confrontation
-SOCOM style lobbies (Requested by community over matchmaking, Slant six listened)
-Post release scoreboard adjustment(Requested by community)
-Dpad lean (Requested by community)
-Two different viewing angles: Over the shoulder and Classic SOCOM (Requested by the community)

SOCOM 4
-Abandoned?
-Not as Glitchy as SOCOM 1?
-Zipper makes BAAAAAAD SP.

@Chabbs0:
It's not first person shooters, I've been messing around with shooters for far longer then the "Call of Easy" crowd and it's really just down to what you expect from shooters. To a lot of people who don't know any better CoD is simply the best shooter available on consoles. Add in that it doesn't take a whole hell of a lot of practice to start to feel like you're "Good" at CoD.

I frequently have to interact with groups of people who more frequently play CoD then any other shooter, I've placed Bad Company 2, MAG, Crysis 2, Homefront, SOCOM, Counter Strike and many others in front of these people and they simply are not interested. CoD is a social thing, just like Guitar Hero people will either move on to something else with their friends or stop playing all together. CoD has an expiry date, might not be this year or the next but it will happen eventually.

Btw, after the PS1 I was bored to tears of JRPG's. It's not the genre itself it was simply how overly similar they all started to become. Maybe in the next Final Fantasy the hero will be moody again. :p
