The next big thing in MMOs?

Is it too much, or would it pressure people too much if hunger & sleep was implemented, along with "needs", such as peeing or shitting...?

Surely the creatures have the ability to pee/shit/getting hungry?

Imagine the following.. You fight a bad-ass boss, and things are going very well for you and your team. However, you need to take a dump. So, your focus goes down, constantly, and as a result, you won't do as well as you normally would.

Is this on the way into MMOs? What do you think? Would MMOs get better from including things such as hunger, and the other "needs"? Would hunters who kill creatures/farm crops actually pay a much more important role in that case?

Discuss! - What do you think, would MMOs get better from such things as these?

While we're at it - is there anything you'd like to see from the real world implemented into MMOs which seems to be oddly missing from it?

From a mechanical point of view: Maintenance tasks are a poor idea. Anything that interrupts the player from playing is generally a poor idea. They do nothing but consumes player's in game time with many negative results: The player feels nagged. The player is doubly penalized for failing. The player doesn't feel rewarded if they accomplished the task.

Some MMO's already kind of do that. I dunno if they still do this in WoW, if you don't rest (log out) in a tavern you don't get an XP boost. Then you have food in a lot of MMO's that give you buffs and stuff. Instead of debuffs/penalties though, most games frame "needs" like food and rest as things you do for rewards.

I think swinging too far into a "needs" system just wouldn't fit into a typical MMO though. That "dump" system, while pretty funny, would be a pain to manage. Even if we were to make a Survival-MMO to make the needs system fit, I don't see that appealing to too many people. It is a pretty interesting concept, but putting such a hardcore mechanic into an already niche genre doesn't seem like the best idea.

Rest XP Bonus isn't a maintenance tasks like carrying around Food/Water. There is nothing stopping a player from leaving the game where ever they want. There is no penalty put on the player for coming back into the game for camping elsewhere. The player still gains some Rest XP Bonus just not the double rate you would at an inn/rest area. This is very different than forcing a player to manage food and water let alone bathroom breaks.

Carrying around food/water for a bonus seems to be a neutral value since there is no penalty for not doing it but players feel compelled to do it for the easy to access buff. Forcing players to carry around food and water to manage hunger/thirst has been done before and historically all that means is that the player has -2 backpack slots while adding nothing to mechanics or "immersion".
