Virtual Reality - So much more than gaming.

Assume you're really poor, but you own a pair of VR googles, a computer, and you have access to internet.

Imagine if someone has made a VR classroom and had a proper professor teaching in his free time, for free to those who join the instance.

There you are, listening and taking notes to a professor demonstrating how astrophysics work in real-time, who even may answer your very own questions, in real-time.

Virtual Reality will be the start of the poorest to get high-class education. I imagine seeing not just games coming out to VR, but lectures as well. Live, and pre-programmed.

I cannot wait. The future is here, at last. Nonsense will be thrown out, and everyone with a VR will hopefully be able to get a SOLID education.

VR is... I hope, so much more than gaming.

This is barely related but there was an article published recently about abandoned virtual college campuses in Second Life, and this reminds me of that.

I imagine the possibilities for visualisation and telepresence in education through VR is great, but I wonder how costly it would be to implement and to provide the hardware to students.

Right but you can already access free educational stuff with just the computer and internet. This while scenario seems a bit off to me. Who is this family too poor to send a child to school (which is free, so we're talking maybe uniform, book and travel costs) but can afford a computer, good speed internet and a VR headset? How is the professor doing a real time talk enhanced at all by VR? What is happening there that cannot happen with a stream or video-conference?

I want to see Nirvana in concert or the Doors in VR also going to virtual movie theater or a 90's arcade. I can't wait for VR this past few years of gaming has been a disappointment when it comes to pushing tech hopefully Virtual Reality will be the kick in the ass this industry needs generation HD remake is getting old.
