Well this made my day a bit more interesting. I've definitely put more faith into Valve as a company as a result of this since they were willing to own up to their mistake. I can't say the same for those Hammerpoint jerks.
That makes sense. So that cinematic when your squad dies/gets rescued wasn't in the original cut?
That's correct. The original ending was awful, and left no closure to anyone for anything. It cut to credits after the scene of joker and your LI leaving the ship.
The extended cut wasn't what I wanted, but I was at least able to walk away knowing that I had a sense of how it ended. The original ending blue balled you and slapped you in the face because it told you to buy DLC.
It's not X-Com if you can just reload! That said I am guilty of save scumming in X-Com '94
But in all seriousness, the game is too easy if you can just reload if a mission goes wrong. It completely negates the "losing is fun" idea that the game is built around, and the suspense and tension of sending dudes on missions, knowing that if anything goes wrong you can just give it another shot. Going on a difficult mission 5 hours into a Classic Ironman run, with mutons and chrysallids being introduced, completely terrified at the idea that not everyone might not make it back, is what makes this game great.
