Watching Hackers on TV last night was amusing - not because of the terrible hack-itude complete with early l33t speak, outdated technology and ambitious portrayals of near-futuristic computer technology, but because of the movies final scenes. The movie ends with the people of the internet heroically uniting to defeat the menacing threat of a computer virus that would cause a huge environmental disaster. 
I wonder if the writers of the movie ever go online and read modern forums or venture play online game with your average gang of random cretins and internet ghouls. If they do, I wonder if they ever shed a tear as their optimistic depiction of a noble internet uniting against corporate evil is destroyed by each bile filled forum post and racist, homophobic XBox Live comment.
I bet they never thought it would turn out like that.

Never watched Hackers but... GOLDEN EGGS!

The rumor was that the Hackers writers went on AOL chat and some guys pranked them out telling them all sorts of BS about stuff like 'gibsons'.

The original Hackers webpage was actually hacked and defaced way back in the day too.  If I remember right it just looked like someone used MS paint and scribbled all over the splash page.

Hackers is a fucking amazingly bad movie with Angelina Jolie's breasts and such memorable names as "zero cool," "cereal killer," and memorable events such as HACKING THE GIBSON.

I like the part with the weird, alternate dimension version of Wipeout
