Legend of Legaia is a run of the mill RPG. 0

Legend of Legaia is a run of the mills RPG with a slightly unique battle system. Other than that battle system (which is different, but it still BORED me), the rest of the game is linear and by the books. Vahn is a silent protagonist, with only 2 other people in your party makes for weak dialog at times. At times you get to pick or choose what Vahn says, but compared to Link he is a very lackluster character. I didn't hate the plot, I kind of enjoyed it. The graphics were decent, but this game o...

Legaia 2: Duel Saga was a tedious, by the books RPG 0

Legaia 2 was slightly improved from the first game, but storyline and length. The battles were way to long and drawn out. The random encounter rate was just ridiculous. The story was cliche in almost every way. There was only a little bit of voice overs during battle, but they're pretty bad to begin with. ----------Battle System---------- Legaia 2: Duel Saga is a turn-based RPG. Your turns are in a round-based format. You have to set your moves at the start of the round and then watch everythi...

La Pucelle was a medicore Strategy RPG. 0

La Pucelle was an ok game I guess. It reminds me alot of Eternal Eyes for the Playstation. It has a similar art style, similar monster capturing, and how you venturing from town to dungeon are almost identical. On both La Pucelle and Eternal Eyes, the battle systems are mediocre at best. I do like the weird humor this game has, I love the art style. I really dislike the barebones world map, and how tiny this game feels. I can't stand the hit-rate ratio, I had a problem with missing attacks this...

Kingdom Hearts II was a good follow up. 0

Don't let my review fool you, I did enjoy Kingdom Hearts II, but there was to much about it that annoyed me. They tried to make the game more complex, in the end it was still a button masher. The story was interesting, but it was completely slowed down by all the side worlds. The game was shorter than the first and not even as fun. I rarely had to use magic and I didn't even use a Summon once. The first game just had more charm overall and better boss battles. ----------Battle System----------...

Kingdom Hearts is good family friendly fun. 0

Kingdom Hearts is an easy game to get into. The original characters and story didn't exactly grab me, and the Battle system wasn't all the hot either but visiting Disney worlds and finding all the sidequests was really fun and a good challenge. If you're wanting alot of Final Fantasy out of this, then you'll be sorely disappointed. Despite some small dislikes, the game was pretty fun to play. ----------Battle System---------- The battle system is pretty shallow action hack and slash. Anyone ...

Jade Empire was a suprisingly good game, despite a few flaws. 0

So Jade Empire was a pretty good game, but with a few flaws that bugged me. The battle system just wasn't that good to begin with, there isn't much action, and the game was just extremely easy, that it only took a few hits to kill an enemy. Boss battles were pretty simple as well and easy to figure out. I was expecting a very open-ended game, but only 2 of the 7 chapters had any amount of freedom, everything else was linear. I also had issues with the camera and load times. The ending of the gam...

Ico was a fun adventure game while it lasted. 1

Ico was a great concept, but there wasn't much to it. The game was just way too short, and the puzzles started to wear thin towards the end. I loved the style and atmosphere this game had but the gameplay was pretty weak compared to any other action / adventure game out there. It was a great experience for what it was atleast. ----------Battle System---------- Ico is an action / adventure game. There's a ton of similarities to this game and the modern Zelda games, except there's more meat to ...

Guardian's Crusade is a mediocre RPG but worth checking. 0

This wasn't the worst game I've ever played, but the battle system was repetitive, the graphics were dated and the game was short. The story didn't really hold up to well, but it was comical in places and there was enough good characters to keep your interest throughout. I expected more out of the "Virutal Pet" aspects that was hyped about this game, it was never an important issue. If you want to collect monsters or whatever, I'm sure a Pokemon game will give you more of a challenge and reaso...

Grandia III was a linear and slightly generic RPG. 0

While I enjoyed the battle system alot, I just wished it was a little faster. Some battles can take forever, even regular battles you fight in dungeons. It felt like a chore sometimes and that's no fun. I appreciate and enjoy the voice work in the game, but I hate the fact that they didn't include subtitles during the cutscenes. It just throws you off a little bit, and if you are playing at a low volume you might miss bits and pieces of dialog. The dungeons were very boring for me, no real pu...

Grandia II has a good simple battle system, but that's it. 0

This is my first Grandia experience.  The game itself was ugly, had a ton of bugs, extremely linear, but the fun battle system and decent storyline made up for all the flaws. Speaking of being extremely linear, this game moves in a straight line all the way through, there's no turning back ever. Grandia II felt really short also. ----------Battle System---------- Grandia II prides itself on the innovative battle system, but I'm not buying it. It's a little different from normal, but still pret...

Golden Sun is a pretty average RPG, but still a good game. 0

Golden Sun was a good game overall, there's nothing extremely bad about it or extremely great, but it does everything right and hardly anything wrong, does that make sense? Well I enjoyed it for the most part, it's far from being original, it took alot of elements from Dragon Warrior and a ton from Wild Arms, but that's hardly a bad thing. You had to keep taping the A button to scroll through each message during battle, the game was short and the dialog scenes were long, that's about the only ma...

God of War was a seriously fun Hack and Slasher. 0

I loved God of War, it was a short experience, but I'm kinda glad it was. The story was great, the graphics were impressive, and they took a boring hack and slasher game and turned it into a fun puzzle solving platformer. Overall it wasn't the most original game ever made, but I was still pretty impressed by it. A few things about this game that doesn't warrant it a 9.0 or higher for me. For one, Video Game Nudity, why was this put into this game? Everything seemed so classy about this game unt...

Gladius is an underrated and almost forgotten RPG. 0

When you start the game, you can pick between Valen's story or Ursula's story. I was planning on playing them both for the review, but Ursula's story was alot longer than I had expected. I wasn't expecting no more than a 30 hour game, but I well exceeded that deadline. Just based on Ursula's story, I really enjoyed this game and the game play. Just the fact that there's two storylines, Co-Op AND Versus mode boosts Gladius' value up 100%, to bad the story and dialog just wasn't all that engagin...

Future Tactics is a poorly developed strategy RPG. 0

I loved Worms on the PS1, I haven't played any since then, but this reminds me of Worms for the most part. The only difference is Worms was fun, and had a ton of weapons to use against your enemies. This game lacks both of those. Future Tactics is really really hard. They made it this hard to make it feel longer than it really is, this game would be alot shorter if you could beat a level without dying 20 times before getting enough strength to finally win and move on to the next stage (and die ...

Sacred Stones is a very good turn-based strategy RPG. 0

This was my first Fire Emblem experience, and I really didn't know anything about this game before I bought it, other than it was an RPG and I needed a game for my brand new GBA (first title I bought too) so I was pleasantly surprised how it turned out. ----------Battle System---------- Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones is a turn-based strategy rpg. Fire Emblem lacks in presentation but has a deep core gameplay. 0

Much like Sacred Stones (the only other Fire Emblem game I've played), this game has a ton of charm, is fun but can ultimately be frustrating. As you probably know by now, Fire Emblem has a system where if your character dies, they don't go into limbo where you can revive them later, they're just DEAD. So if you care enough about story archs and your characters, then you're going to want to keep everyone alive. This is tougher than it sounds because one little mistake can screw up an entire batt...

Final Fantasy 12 was extremely fun, and better than I had expecte 0

I was really skeptical towards Final Fantasy 12. The last main Final Fantasy I really loved was Final Fantasy 9. All the changes towards the seires really turned me off to Final Fantasy 12, but I wanted to find out what the hub-bub was about so I decided to break down and finally play it hands on. Despite the slow start, I was surprised how good it ended up being. What can be said about Final Fantasy 12 that hasn't already been said a 1,000 times already? Not much really. Either way, I did enjo...

Final Fantasy X-2 was surprisingly good. 1

I was not a big fan of Final Fantasy X's storyline, so I really didn't care for this universe. I've always had low expectations for this game, from everything I've read to everything I've seen, I just had no interest in this game. I must say though, Final Fantasy X-2 turned out alot better than those expectations. I really loved the battle system, I loved the job classes and learning new skills. The game was fairly easy and not very long, this is good because of the multiple endings and New Game...

Final Fantasy X was painfully linear. 2

Ok ok. While this is the first time I played through Final Fantasy X, this isn't the first time I experienced it though. I remember day one when this game came out and watched a friend play through it for about 10 hours. I was completely wowed by the graphics, as it was the first PS2 game I've actually seen in motion, but I was disgusted by the lame main characters. I could never get over it, so I never had the urge to play this game. Now that I'm starting to scrap at the bottom of the PS2 RPG b...

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles should have been a better game. 0

I went through the motions with this game. At first I loved it, then I hated it, then by the end of the game I started to enjoy it again. I just hate needless backtracking, and this game is full of it. This isn't a very big game in the first place, but the end got really really hard, so you're forced to backtrack through dungeons multiple times to get strong enough. I loved the graphics and the music, but the gameplay did get repetitive to me. The boss fights was enough to get me through the g...

Fallout: BoS was a linear, repetitive, boring (etc) waste of time 0

I haven't played the previous Fallout games, so this review is completely unbiased in that sense, but I have played Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, and other games of that ilk, and really don't like them, so take that for what you want. I thought the graphics was a complete step back from Dark Alliance (a three year older game). The character models looked like crap. The three main avatars in the game are completely faceless through out the game because the only time they're shown is in cutscene...

Fable was short, buggy and way to easy. 0

Fable features about 15 hours of gameplay, slightly clunky controls, buggy graphics and a bunk story with a dumb main character and forgettable non-playable characters. I can't say this is a great game with any confidences, but it did have some nice ideas, so I'll give it a D for effort. I did like the art style (for a WRPG) and I liked how the character aged over the years in the game (despite how the NPC did NOT age). I liked being able to choose between being good or bad, but it's not enough...

Evolution Worlds is a chopped up Dreamcast port. 0

Evolution Worlds was a hard game to get through. Even though it was really short and simple to play, trying to finish the Tower of Despair was a complete chore. It could easily take up 10-12 hours if you fought every monster there, that's half the game. The repetitive nature of the game was hard to swallow. It seems like a rushed RPG to appear on the Dreamcast as early as possible, and this port was a chopped up version of a rushed game, not a good combination. The only redeeming values was the ...

Eternal Eyes is a throwaway RPG, stay away from this one. 0

The story is generic, the battle system is unoriginal AND bad, the graphics are ugly. There isn't any challenge, no sidequests, and it's extremely linear. There's only 10 chapters in the game, and 7 areas to visit, 2 of them being towns. A few dungeons you have to revisit, and one is just a compilation of older dungeons you already visited disguised as "Illusions". There might be about 5 bosses in the game. Overall this game feels rushed and slapped together at the last minute. There isn't much ...

Eternal Darkness is a very impressive Horror Adventure game. 2

Eternal Darkness was a great game, it was longer than I had expected and left me with a memorable impression. The graphics was a bit dated, other than that the only thing I hated about this game was the repeating dungeons. There's probably 3 or 4 dungeons in total of this game, but you replay them in different time zones, so things are different about them. While it's enough to give you new puzzles, you're still walking through the same rooms over and over and over again. It get's old. It would...

Elemental Gimmick Gear is a decent Zelda clone RPG. 0

E.G.G. was a short game, but I loved the puzzle solving. The battle system was kinda weak but Leon didn't have any reach at all, and monsters take a TON of damage on him. Some boss fights gave me trouble, and the last dungeon annoyed me because I couldn't exit it, but otherwise, this was a pretty good game. ----------Battle System---------- Elemental Gimmick Gear is a typical Action RPG Zelda clone. Leon won't pick up any new weapons or armor within the game but he can find stones that will boo...

Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes is about as generic as you can get. 0

In some ways, this game improves upon Dark Alliance's system, but in other ways it falls in the same problems I had with Dark Alliance. Ok, while the dungeons are generic, the battling is boring, the lack of puzzles, and the story and characters are lame. On the brighter side of things, the camera is free roaming, the graphics are nice, the ability to play with 4 players instead of 2 or 3... uh.. I guess that's about it. Well I enjoyed the magic system in this game, this was the first game of t...

Dragon Warrior 7 is a game for RPG fans with a ton of patience. 5

Dragon Warrior 7 wasn't a terrible game, it was close, but not completely terrible. It was however extremely outdated by the time it came out, completely tedious, with terrible graphics and repetitive gameplay. Overall the game was just extremely slow at everything. Leveling up was slow, gaining skills was slow, it took 2 hours from the start of the game to get into your first tutorial battle. It wasn't until about 20 hours into the game where you could learn job classes. By the time you got you...

Dragon Quest 8 is the best in the series thus far. 1

Dragon Quest 8 is the best Dragon Quest I've played to date. The story, while not on par with a few RPGs out there today, is still solid and better than any Dragon Quest prior. The character designs are magnificent. The quest is just overall HUGE, with a ton of sidequests, secrets, skills to learn, items to make, things to collect. This game will keep you busy for a very long time to come if you want. The game wasn't to difficult, the boss fights might offer somewhat of a challenge, but findin...

Contact was fun while it lasted, but there wasn't enough meat. 0

Contact was short, so there wasn't much of a chance to flesh things out. I did spent 11 hours on it initially, but atleast 4 of those was straight up power leveling up. There's only 9 Islands and only a few of them are big enough to hold a dungeon. There just wasn't enough content in the game to really hold the interest in the RPG fan inside me. Overall, my first initial run was fun, but I still feel a little gipped about things. The music was good, the graphics were good, the controls were ok...

CIMA: The Enemy was a good idea in theory, but bad game overall. 0

CIMA: The Enemy was a tiresome hack and slasher that got boring after the first couple dungeons. Since there was no variation in the dungeons, the game got pretty simple since you knew how to defeat the dungeons with ease. The only challenge I had with the game was some of the bosses, but after you knew their pattern you could defeat them pretty easily. I really liked the Idea of this game, the RTS elements intrigued me and it started off strong with the opening storyline. The game was just re...

Champions of Norrath is a repetitve and cheap Hack and Slasher. 0

I kinda liked Dark Alliance, but as time went on, the repetition with the game got to me and it just got plain ol' boring. I figured they would work things out with this new Champions of Norrath, but no, it's the same flaws and errors I found in Dark Alliance but multiplied. This game is so freaking boring and reptitive. There's barely a hint of story, or a single interesting character. So basically this is the same boring game made by the people that brought you Dark Alliance, and they didn't...

Castlevania: LoI is the first worthy 3D Castlevania. 0

I don't know about this one. The lack of depth to the storyline was a little weak, the gameplay seemed kinda dumbed down. The game was way to easy, the graphics seemed dated. The game was just really short and the levels were really small. Castlevania: Curse of Darkness was one step forward, and one step 0

Castlevania: Curse of Darkness is a small leap forward for the 3D Castlevania's, but not quite there yet. The graphics are a big improvement. The added elements like experience points, leveling, and Innocent Devils are a welcome return to form. The weapon forging and loot drops add alot of depth to the game. On the other hand, the controls seemed slow and clumsy, I missed the platforming elements. The storyline and characters are still not that compelling. The action seemed a little repetitive ...

Brave Fencer Musashi was a decent Action / RPG at best. 0

Brave Fencer Musashi was not the Zelda killer Square pushed on us, but if you're a fan of Zelda I couldn't see a reason why you wouldn't enjoy this to a certain extent. There was a ton of Zelda elements to the game, but they slapped a bunch of random stuff into the game to make it seem less-Zelda cloney. There's alot of minigames you'll be forced to do in the game, like one boss you have to do a memory test, similar to Simon Says, or another where you have to ride down a waterfall collecting coi...

Blazing Heroes has not aged well, but still a decent RPG. 0

Blazing Heroes was my first Strategy RPG, my first 3D RPG, my first Saturn RPG, and my first 32 bit RPG all wrapped into one. I have alot of fond memories with this game, but I can't say it holds up to well. Most of the problems I have with the game is the extremely aged graphics, the bad loading times, the terrible storyline and annoying characters. Outside of all of that, I still like this games battle system. I like the leveling up system with the characters and skills. Despite all the flaws,...

Bioshock was a fun FPS/Adventure title despite many, many flaws. 1

I fell for the Bioshock hype and I fell hard. While I enjoyed the final product, I still had alot of problems with it. I think if Bioshock was strictly a FPS, then it would suck, and if it was strictly an adventure game, then it would suck, but since it combines these two elements, it seems better than it really is. That's only because there aren't very many one-player FPS out there right now. The biggest hype this game created was the amazing storyline and originality. While I LOVED the Little...

Beyond Good and Evil is a great game for all you pacifists. 0

Beyond Good and Evil is one of the best games I've played for the Gamecube. Not only does it have one of the best stories for a video game, it also has great graphics, sound, an awesome control scheme. The only adventure game that is better than this is Windwaker, mostly because of the length and sheer amounts of things to do. The game is just way to short to warrant a full $50 price, so this might be why it initially failed to get sales. I probably would be annoyed if I paid more than $20 for i...

Baten Kaitos was much better than expected. 0

I had very low expectations going in with Baten Kaitos, but I ended up enjoying it more than I had wanted to. There was a ton of flaws with it, including the story, characters, and voices but I stuck it out and finished the game without feeling bored. I did cringe with most of the dialog though. The battles dragged on a little long, even the sub-enemies, so I dreaded going into a fight. The way you level up is really stupid, and the lack of CGI Cutscenes was extremely disappointing.
