Who here plays a real instrument?
"Not really a Rock Band question, per se... More of an off-topic question. It kinda is considering the amount of idiots that come on here saying "omgggg learn a real instrument" Well many of us know mutiple instruments
But, I play the guitar.
"
I know what you're saying though :P
I can sing. I'm a baritone, and I can go to town on a showtune or two. However, I have no formal training--just experience (mostly musical theater in my teens and college).
I play the trumpet pretty well, and the guitar pretty poorly. Interestingly, I think that my skills at GH/RB guitar are more due to the former than the latter. Working the valves on an instrument like the trumpet builds the kind of finger dexterity that translates very well over to a plastic guitar. =)
I play harmonica, both acoustic and amplified. I've been in a few bands and stuff. Tried to learn guitar, but lacked the patience or coordination. So Rock Band fulfills that fantasy nicely. I'd like to be better at the drums, since they're so much fun, but there's that coordination thing again. I'm looking forward to the drum trainer in Rock Band 2 to help my hopeless case.

"Just wondering how many other people here play a real instrument.
Thanks to Rock Band i finally convinced my parents to let me get a drum kit. I had wanted one since i was a little kid, but they has always said no. But after i got good at the drums on rock band they finally broke down and let me get a kit."
Thats funny, yeh i used to play bass.
Guitar and Bass for me.
Used to be a keyboard player until I discovered Metal in the mid-80's and never looked back.
Always wanted to play the drums but could never seem to get any good at it and Rock Band continues to punish me for my lousy co-ordination,
I play tenor sax, I used to play marimba, and after being a fan of GH and RB, I hope in the future to truly learn to play the guitar or drum.
I'm working on music theory and am hoping to go get through the 100 level non performing classes at my university and then I'd work on piano and or guitar.

Trumpet (5 years. Got really good and was first chair in my jazz/concert band, then I totally sucked after I got braces [really messes up your embrochure])
Euphonium (2 years. Switched to after trumpet but IMO not nearly as fun)
Guitar (1/2 year. Doing private lessons, but previous music experience helped a LOT)
