Made you look! I made this post because I want this suggestion to ripple anonymously out into the world to the people who decide these things, especially after I read a 1up news story where (God forbid) U2 expressed interest in being the next spotlight band for a Rock Band game.

    This must not happen.

So, instead, I suggest to the universe: Rock Band: Pink Floyd. And I suggest it here because I have hopes that this forum will have a lower number of people who stare with blank non-recognition at the name of one of the greatest bands of all time, certainly a band that could take on the Rock Band treatment with amazing results.

You even have all the imagery already established in the same way as the Beatles. The Wall? Oh my god (that flower scene). Animals (flying pig). Dark Side of the Moon (license Wizard of Oz footage). Meddle, Sid Barrett stuff (acid trip visuals yo).

Plus you'd be playing David f*@king Gilmour guitar! Give fair representation and follow David Gilmour with "Pink Floyd," while you give me some tracks and visuals from Roger Waters solo albums Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking (guitar track by Eric Clapton) or Amused to Death (guitar track by Jeff Beck)!

Maybe not a party atmosphere game but I think there's a whole squad of goth kids out there these days who think the Cure is as far back as they should bother to go.

Universe! Rock Band: Pink Floyd. Make it happen.

I like Pink Floyd, but I'm not sure they're relevant enough. Also, aren't those music games just about a dying breed now? I thought their moment had passed?

Mellow music is no fun to play in Rockband. I also don't think they're the same level of cultural touchestone that the Beatles are. They have cache for sure, but this isn't Guitar Hero where every motherfucker gets their own game. Rockstar's more particular.

From a gameplay perspective, I'm not sure Pink Floyd is complicated enough to warrant a Rock Band game.  The songs are complex because there are a lot of moving parts within the songs not because the individual moving parts are doing complicated things.  Besides the solos, the gameplay might be a bit boring even on the hardest of settings.

I love Pink Floyd and all, but that would be a fucking boring game. What would you even do during the nine minutes Echos is just alien noises?

I feel like it's the perfect time only now, since the keyboard controller has come out with Rock Band 3.  Pink Floyd has a lot of reputation as mellow, and they certainly aren't thrashers, but were the Beatles?  I enjoyed the hell out of that game.

I figure if we get one year with Guitar Hero out of the picture and Harmonix pulling in some good Dance Central money, then maybe they can start putting out devoted games that are more labors of love like Beatles: Rock Band, and less popularity-grabs like Green Day: Rock Band.  It's clear I'm a fan of the band, have been ever since high school.  They are very misunderstood and a release that surveys the breadth of their music could do a lot to fix that.

I hope music games can have a comeback, just under the Rock Band label.  It's Activision that always rides their ponies until they are completely dead.

Roger Waters and David Gilmour recently reunited for a charity event, an event which many thought would never happen.  If this game came together just as they did, say on a reunion tour, the relevancy of the release may make better sense.

But honestly, fuck all the rationalization.  I just want this game, ya know.  The Wall animation behind Rock Band gameplay?  Why not, universe?

@SoldierG654342: Bong hits?  ;)   Come on man, I don't want to play along with Careful With That Ax Eugene, but Free Four, San Tropez, plenty of good songs to use from Animals, Dark Side, The Wall, Final Cut, even Piper at the Gates of Dawn.  Get the rights to Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking and Amused to Death.  Put that shit out for Pro Guitar and tell me you're bored trying to play it.

@imbarkus: I would get very bored because I'm not a guitar player, I'm a drummer. And with rare, rare  exception Nick Mason is an astoundingly boring drummer. Not that I blame him. I wouldn't want to play complex or demanding stuff for songs as long as he has to play, but it would make for exceedingly tedious gameplay.  Not to mention the fact that almost everyone I play Rock Band with get's antsy on "Won't Get Fooled Again"s keyboard interlude, and that song's as long as some of the breaks in Pink Floyd's stuff.

This idea would be best served as either a small track pack for Rock Band that picks four or five of the most interesting songs from a gameplay perspective, or as something for Rock Smith if what you are interesting is the guitar.

No. Would be boring as shit. I don't know why so many people think it would be a good idea - I think only the super hardcore Pink Floyd fans would have fun with it.

Also, I just don't care for Pink Floyd.

@SoldierG654342: Yeah I guess drums are the weak spot.  Can't be denied, but there's plenty of awesome Richard Wright keyboard tracks, guitar, bass, and vocals.

The main reason I don't want to see it as a track pack is the awesome visual treatment that came along with Beatles:  Rock Band.  I can't think of a band with a richer visual history, with more of a focus on fantastic stage and lighting show, with more characters and iconography for each album, than Pink Floyd.

But there's no denying it would take a real good sport to come along for that ride and play drums.

I would have agreed with the Green Day: Rock Band being a popularity grab before I played it.  But after I played it, it was clear that they put a lot of work into making Green Day: Rock Band a great game for both fans and non-fans alike.  Plenty of interesting collectibles, and the mocap stuff they did was excellent.  I think it was more than just a quick buck for Harmonix, they try to put as much as they can into almost (I'll say it again, ALMOST) everything they do.

@Franstone: I'm, like, almost 40, I'm a traditional and graphic and motion graphic artist, a SQL database guy, Flash developer, marketer... I got a lot of irons in the fire already.  I can't play Rock Band on Hard.  Playing real instruments is just out of my league, man, I can admit it.  These games are flights of fantasy for me.  Maybe as I'm getting older it's irritating to see one of my favorite bands just slowly being forgotten, I dunno.  Still think an awesome audio/visual/gaming experience could be made from this, but seems like I'm alone in it.  Ah well...

@SMTDante89:  Okay you got me.  I'll play it.  Unfair of me to judge it without playing it, true.

Green Day has sold a total of ~35.8 million records (not including singles)

Pink Floyd's The Wall by itself - a 2 two disk, more pricy album holds the record for the third most selling album of all time in the states with 23 million records sold - in america alone. Factoring in world sales, this album alone has surpassed Green Days total album sales.

So I'm not sure I buy that excuse.

Regardless, Pink Floyd has already said they have no interest in coming to these games. Then again, so did Tool.

@imbarkus: I hear ya man, I wouldn't sell yourself short though, contrary to popular belief, you can teach an old dog new tricks!  ; )
Maybe if they had a Pink Floyd song pack it could get some peoples interest peaked but a whole game based on their music might be a bit much.
I wouldn't sell all kids short either, I have a 12 year old cousin that loves the Zeppelin, The Doors, Pink Floyd, but that's because he's been exposed to it by awesome older cousins (me, and others, hah, jk) but mostly his father.
I think a lot of the younger crowd goes through their crap music stage, but the ones that actually love good music get out of it and find these timeless bands eventually.
Floyd was a bit ahead of my time but my friends and I were still into them.

Some songs in Rock Band on hard actually feel more difficult than playing real guitar, hah.

Like some1 else mentioned how music games are dead, unfortunately my rock band set is in the basement covered in dust.
My real guitar is right here safe n sound.

OMG my dog just farted and I think I'm gonna puke...

The guy isn't gonna get his wish, If he's got a passion for it then that's the next obvious step.
I don't look down on music games, I own 1, not sticking my nose up in the air either.
    You know nothing...

Edit: I love to Mtn. Bike.
If I saw a forum post about some1 wishing for Mtn. Biking game (which would also probably not happen) I would probably suggest they get off their ass and do it for real.
Is it wrong to have a passion in life that when actually doing the real thing is better than through a video game?

Relevant enough???. The Dark Side of the Moon is the third most selling album of all time and the most selling album of the 70's, The Wall is also on the top 10 of all time and 'greatest hits' albums like Echoes are selling like crazy NOW, people are still buying Pink Floyd related stuff.

I own a guitar and barely play it (not interested enough to spend the time training myself and developing callous'), there's definitely songs that were easy on guitar and a bit harder in the games. They're just different methods.

Metallica songs for example are ridiculously easy on real guitar (except maybe some of the solos) and way harder in the games.

I'm not saying it's like this for all songs. In fact songs that are harder in the game than on real guitar are definitely the minority, I'm just saying there's definitely songs that are harder in the game than on real guitar.

It's just because they're different. The games don't have strumming, other than the 1 tab of course, and are more about the timing. Guitars have 6 cords. Which means that songs that are easy to strum on guitar, tend to be harder in the game, due to the timing and more dependence on the fret buttons (which isn't as intense on guitar).

A very simple real world example of a song that, while not difficult in Rock Band, is a much more difficult chart than in real life.

About 40 seconds in, it hits the chorus riff. Not too tough, but your fingers are doing a lot of chords and they move quickly. On a real guitar, this is in drop-D and you can play the whole thing with just a one finger per chord. It's very easy, even for beginners to learn. This is much harder.

Any song that is based on acoustic fingerpicking is also usually more difficult in Rock Band.

I hate the superiority complex people get about real guitar vs. Rock Band guitar. I play both, enjoy both, and both are different. Looking down on Rock Band or Guitar Hero as "not real guitar" is like scoffing at Call of Duty because it's "not real killing people."

Anyway, the only thing missing in my life is Pink Floyd: Rock Band or equivalent DLC. If you think such a game would be boring, it is you, sir, who are boring.

It's the method that makes it different.
Do ya think a real guitar player can just pick up a Rock Band guitar and play it on hard or pro just because it's easier?
    Negative.
Same for some kid who might be able to play a Rock Band guitar on hard or pro, you think they could just pick up a real guitar and bust out their favorite rock band song?
    Wrong!
They both take practice, and if you are familiar with one, the other is going to seem more difficult.

@JasonR86: I think telling you that you know nothing then laughing after was clue enough...
I guess you are a little slow though.
    ; )
    Wink! I'm winking!
I don't really think you are slow.
    I don't fucking know you.
HA HA HA (yes I'm being a jerk now)

Edit: There ya go again, thinking I'm not having fun with this.
I think I would be more "butt-hurt" if I just bent over and took it but no I responded.

I'm already well aware of this. And technically that was one song. Big whoop.

Downhill Domination was pretty good.  You know, not realistic, but fun to play:  http://www.giantbomb.com/downhill-domination/61-21793/

That is exactly how I want my Pink Floyd music game experience.  I see what you're saying, it just doesn't apply to me.  Some things I would rather do "lite, fantasy": versions of, like Boxing, or War.  That's what I think games are for.  Maybe that's why Pro Mode didn't sell many copies of Rock Band 3, I dunno.  I don't want to learn to play guitar.  I just want to play like I'm in a Rock Band, with the music and themes and visuals of which I am a fan.
