    Asked about whether The Cave would be more platformer than adventure game, Ron Gilbert had this to say:

    Now this goes along with what impressions like Brad Shoemaker's have been saying that the game doesn't require manual dexterity (even if looks like a platformer), but just adventure game logic. "I wanted to make running around fun. A lot of the old p&c adventure games, you spend a lot of time just walking around from one screen to another. I wanted to do something where it was fun to move."

    (0:45) Machinima: "There's also a 2D platforming element to it as well."

    Ron Gilbert: "Uh, it's very very light. You're never going to miss jumps."

    This might put adventure fans at ease, since this is his first return to adventure games in over a decade.

    I just thought this would be interesting, for history's sake.

    Sounds good. I'm way more interested in the adventure elements. Also, what he said about making the traversal fun does make sense.

    I'm waiting until the game comes out. 
    Although I don't mind platformers, but knowing about games Ron Gilbert usually makes I suspect he may try to be a bit different. While it may have some platforming mechanics I think the idea is that is not the primary focus. But then again, we'll see how that goes.

    I can understand that sentiment. Some gamers aren't about dexterity. Some are for the stories or puzzles or a myriad of other reasons. So, it's awesome that Ron Gilbert is designing for himself and those players. :)

    @AssInAss: Perhaps. I don't really know what he's had to say about the genre before. But if I was a renowned comical graphic adventure designer and wanted to do a game that was a love letter to platformers or metroidvanias without actually being one, I'd approach it sorta like this. I guess we'll see how the jokes and puzzles work out when the game's done.

    that's cool, I guess. we all have things that we like and dislike.

    For instance, I think pretty much every mmo is dogshit, and dislike competitive games.
