Overview
Samurai Deeper Kyo is a historical-fantasy 2D fighting game published by Bandai for the PlayStation exclusively in Japan on December 12, 2002.
Based on the manga and anime series of the same name, Samurai Deeper Kyo is a traditional 2D fighting game similar to the Samurai Shodown and Last Blade series, set in Japan's early Edo period.
Gameplay mechanics include an assist system and a simplistic control setup with two attack buttons of different strengths and two buttons solely for special attacks (with an optional command system that further simplifies it into one attack button and three special attack buttons).
A handheld adaptation of the series was released the same month for the Game Boy Advance as an overhead action-adventure game. While both games was originally exclusive to Japan, the GBA version received a localized release for North America six years later, making it the last game released for the system in that region.
