Not all scientists are mad and/or hell-bent on dominating worlds. Some are just your ordinary egghead with a coat.
Enemy Capture is a game mechanic that enables the player to capture or charm enemies. The capture mechanics and the ways enemies are used are myriad, but the effects are always beneficial to the player.
Games in which the player can directly control a spherical object or creature that rolls along surfaces, such as in Marble Madness. Often the basis of puzzle platformers where the sphere must be guided through an obstacle course.
Orcs/Orks/Orques are a fictional race of tough humanlike creatures, often with green or black skin, originally coming from the Saxon word for the Normans during the invasion, meaning demon or foreigner.
Generally used to fool other characters or parties into thinking you're one of them or belong there for purposes of deception, spying, or accessing data.
A dark power that is usually the cause for the world's strife. The curse can only be broken after the protagonist (or band of protagonists) defeats several dangerous trials.
Blindness is an affliction that robs a person of their sight. In games it usually causes physical attacks/projectiles to miss, but magical spells aren't as widely affected.
Rabbits, or bunnies, are smallish mammals with long ears and a cottony tail.
Fairies appear in many games, usually as a race that will assist players with magic. Fairies are almost exclusively female.
Female ninja.
Everyone that is born has parents. These games feature adults with children of their own.
Any practitioner of magic (wizard, sorcerer, mage, necromancer, etc.) who casts spells. Even unlearned scholars can throw a mean magic missile every now and then.
A person serving time in prison or an escaped criminal on the run from the law.
Frozen water. Ice can be slippery and it can be fun for ice skating.
Hopping Chinese vampires that suck life force.
The head of a city government. The perfect candidate if your game needs a rear end in a top hat.
A Secret area is a place hidden that few will find unless they know where to look.
'Drop-In' is a style of co-op gameplay where extra players can join the 1st player seamlessly without having to quit the game or navigate any menus. Many of these games do allow players to 'Drop-Out' of the game in a similar manner.
Trading systems allow players to trade items, money and other objects between each other.
Popularized by Square Enix's Dragon Quest series, a Textcalibur is when a sword (or other weapon) appears in the game's title in place of one of the letters, usually the T or the I.
A blob consisting of some icky substance, the slime monster is one of the most used RPG monster clichés besides rats.
Video games stories with a bad ending or endings, in which the primary conflict is unable to be resolved and/or a bad fate befalls the protagonist.
"The gentle way", a martial art focused on grapples and throws.
Supply and Demand are the two fundamental forces that guide an economy. Many games feature these two forces in either a self-contained or player-driven fashion.
Combat between ships dates back to antiquity, and in the 20th century expanded to include the use of aircraft.
Special locations in game that allow the player to manually save their progress.
Whether searching for loot as a pirate, or attacking enemy ships in the navy, there is nothing quite like sailing the seas.
