I wonder if they can mic themselves differently when they're using fight sticks? Listening to the constant loud clicking was really obnoxious.

Edit: The game does seem bad either way though, which is a bummer. I appreciated the stages and music though.

Love to spend 30-45 minutes sprucing up a GB wiki page for an obscure game only for GB to play it and a host to say "so I looked this up on Wikipedia..."

I'm not sure why they have so much difficulties in doing special moves in KOF 96. Is it because of their version which they mentioned as a PS2 port?

Also wish they gave more credit to the music, it's pretty much the high point to the KOF series.

I love it when Jeff randomly chimes in about Sonic the Fighters being way too low. I don't want to watch high level play of it or anything but it's a fun, competent little thing.

Godzilla really didnt age well, nor it was very good. But that KOF man i would even say its better than the previous they tested for science. Yes the graphics are dated but men does it move great, like 3rd strike

You have to be very deliberate with the special moves in older KoF games. Eventually you could just whip them out but back in those early ones you had to do them fairly slow.

Why were there two Mecha Godzillas?

There's one MechaGodzilla from the 1970s Godzilla films, the "Showa Era" and there's one MechaGodzilla from the 1990s Godzilla films, the "Heisei Era."

Basically, these eras are unofficial names for the periods of time when Japanese Godzilla films were being made (like the MCU "phases"). Each era is self-contained and the continuity of those films sometimes are continuous, sometimes they're just stand alones from each other (with the only continuity being that they're sequels from the 1954 original).

It's confusing and convoluted a bit but Godzilla movies are (mostly) fun as hell and have a campy, b-movie charm at worst (Godzilla vs Megalon, Destroy all Monsters!) and are genuinely thoughtful and entertaining at best (Gojira, Godzilla vs Biollante, Shin Godzilla, Godzilla vs Destoroyah).

controls in old kof games can be pretty picky but yeah, would definitely not recommend using the ps2 on ps4 anthology collections to play these. bad latency and really ugly visual scaling

@gundato: In addition to what the other guy said, the one in the bottom right tends to be called "Mechagodzilla II", but not in this game for some reason.

There's also something I enjoy about Jeff describing the "obvious" plot for the Mechagodzilla movies and it's actually the plot of... None of them. The first one was built by ALIENS and the second one is just the government, no stealing plans or anything.

There's also one from the early 00s where they built it using the literal skeleton of the original Godzilla which goes hilariously bad.

@robpigott:Those eras are official periods of history corresponding to reigns of Japanese Emperors. Showa was 1926-1989 for Emperor Shōwa and Heisei was 1989-2019 for Emperor Akihito. Nothing to do with Godzilla.

The Toho produced Godzilla films are unofficially split up into the Shōwa Era, the Heisei Era, the Millennium Era, and now the Reiwa Era. You're absolutely right that those first two eras correspond to the official reigns of Japan's emperors but the Godzilla franchise and its periods of film releases correspond to and then go beyond that naming system so that's why I mentioned that without mentioning that fans have basically lifted the naming convention from official Japanese historical records. Thanks for the clarification though.

Gamera and Gyaos are from Daiei films, Godzilla and all the other monsters in this game are from Toho films.

The reason Jeff is seeing two Mechagodzillas is because one is Mechagodzilla and the other Super Mechagodzilla.

Biollante was the slow character that Ben didn't like.
