Giant Bombcast 01-03-2012

best bombcast this year. yep that was bad i know

This podcast was pretty awesome.

Bombcast, just a suggestion. Too many voices in a podcast isn't great listening. Three people is optimum, four is the max. Patrick missing was not a loss.

Haters Pre-Klepek: Bombcast has lost sooooo much of its energy. It's like they don't even CARE anymore and they're not into it anymore.

Haters Post-Klepek: Bombcast is sooooo rowdy now. It's like they're just talking over each other and they go off on these stupid, unrelated tangents.

Some people are never happy. And that's sad.

A couple things...

Love Vinny, but between this podcast's Skyrim talk and the last GOTY Bombcast, he sounds super whiny about that game. Still love him, but damn. Backhanded compliments out the ass.

Also, more Dave and less Patrick = award winning Giant Bomb formula.

Good Guy Dave. Too bad it feels like they didn't appreciate it. Kids these days.

Goddam this bombcast was amazing. That Dave story about the girl offering hip-hop lessons was amazing. PLEASE have this group + Jeff next week!

Btw...

If you guys have Comcast Internet, even if you do not subscribe to Comcast Cable TV specifically, you may be able to avoid the "radio waves" (i.e. antenna), and just use Comcast's cable. In my case, it's included free with my internet package. Granted, you only get the locals, but it sure beats having deal with the potential reception issues that can come with using the rabbit ear method.

Wipeout 3 was only called Wip3out in EU. So Ryan wasn't entirely incorrect when he said Driv3r was the first offender.

Edit: We need more Snider in the podcast.  Sometimes he likes some
really shitty games, but I like hearing about them & why he likes them.
 
Edit2: I disagree on Brad's Skyrim where you have to pick a certain 
type & no Jack of All Trades.  I'm a fighter/thief/magic-user & I'm using
shield & sword & I'm kicking ass.  I haven't had to change difficulty 
settings or anything.

Another excellent point! I remember the heady days of whining about no news quickly transforming into whining about nobody wanting news. Even things like "If I want news, I'll just go to Destructoid or Kotaku! This is unnecessary!"

Thi4f to be the worst one this far. Though it appears that Eidos is now saying that this is only a WIP name after much protests from the fans.

What Ryan was saying about how Jeff plays MMOs is exactly how he seems to play all games and it is kind of annoying to me. I feel as though his game reviewer mentality has made him automatically try to find the quickest most boring way to play every game instead of actually trying to delve into what makes the game unique and different. I believe this to be the real reason that Jeff doesnt like Dark Souls. He would claim that the game is "broken" or "bad" because of the controls or something random that only displays his ignorance about the game, but the real reason he doesnt like it is because there is no way to just brute force your way through that game. You actually have to learn the systems and figure out the rules within which the game places you and how to develop your skills within those parameters.

I really wish the bomb crew wouldn't immediately declare certain months "dead" just because they're not interested in the games coming out. Soul Calibur V and Final Fantasy XIII-2 are coming out at the end of January. The Darkness II is a week later. Syndicate and Binary Domain follow shortly thereafter, and then Mass Effect 3 is at the beginning of March. I understand if they're only interested in the last game on that list, but all of those games have received some amount of attention and hype, and will have a dedicated following in one way or another.

I pretty much agree with everything you said there, even the part that wasnt in response to me. I sometimes find what the GB guys choose to focus on and ignore strange. For instance, last year they did an interveiw/gameplay demo thing for El Shaddai but then never ever talked about it ever again. I understand they have to make choices about what to cover, but especially during this time of year it seems even weirder that they are choosing to ignore games in favor of focusing on nothing.
