Suikoden 1 and 2? Meh. 3 to 5 worked for me. It's too bad the PS2 isn't handheld yet.

This may only be in North America/Europe, but Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard are sold separately on the eshop, or bundled together at a higher price at retail.

I think I'm one of few people playing Dark Souls 3 who doesn't mind spoilers. Wish the 8-4 guys and the Bomb/Beastcasts would talk about it more.

I really appreciate the timestamps. I just wanted to listen to the NX and DS3 discussion, and those timestamps came in handy.

What you said about people who are amped for VR is that they see where it's going. Those who think it's going to be tech demos forever just don't remember much of how games developed. I can get it if you got into games in 2005 or so, games have been the same since then.. But the first generations of consoles had a RIDICULOUS pace of development, and that was fucking intensely exciting. If we get even a fraction of that experimental era with VR it's worth getting in early. The next three years will probably be the most exciting time for VR. Every couple of months there's a leap, and the leaps will give you a brand new experience every time.

Contrast this with your newest console.. How many "oh my god.. This is so fresh!!!" experiences have you had? Not a ton? Me neither :/

The 2600 of VR is already far more exciting to me than the previous 10 years of games. Aside from the indie gold that we've seen for the past 5 or so years, nothing really changed in the last decade of gaming. Endless mill of WoW and CoD knockoffs, stupid music games, deluge of match 3 mobile games.. The perfection process of the MOBA.. That's about it.. Been starved for "new" for so long.

Dreams from Media Molecule and other UGC games will be fucking amazing for VR and they have me more excited than anything else right now. Excited to see what people brew up when being given near limitless freedom to create. Excited to see what different groups make, maybe we'll get a Giant Bomb Dreams dev group going where we can share and check out eachother's creations and whatnot. Twitch game-jams etc. The potential for awesome has never been greater.

That should be enough fanatical VR evangelizing for today.. :D

@mostlysquares: I'm personally excited for how VR could be applied to exercise and travel markets. 360 degree bus tours of foreign countries? Running through the streets of a famous city while on my treadmill at home? Sign me up.

Suikoden III is a masterpiece. Also the only one I have played, but wow, what a JRPG.

The lack of forward movement makes treadmill exercises insufferable and instinctually stupid, to the point that I don't think people exist that use these regularly at home. It's different in public...

VR could help potentially, but sweat and headset weight will make it very messy, probably have to wait for a waterproof model.

There were some projects developed to "cure" child obesity that combined some kind of excercise rig with a video game console. They all failed miserably, perhaps obviously but actually for various reasons, biggest of them being the actual cause is bad nutrition.

What a terrible, terrible episode. Did they have anything good to say about anything? It was just 2 hours of them shitting on everything. I think I'm done with this.

The main reason I'm not excited for VR is that I can't see 3D media. Haven't tried any VR yet (Don't have any wealthy/well-off friends or friends in the games industry), but I have major trouble seeing the 3D on the 3DS, for instance, and flat out can't see 3D in 3D movies. I don't know why, as to my knowledge I have better than average vision (20/15), and nothing like an astigmatism or anything like that.

EDIT: Also, the person talking about Ratchet and Clank is both wrong and a monster. :p (Seriously, though, what?)

EDIT2: What is up with the mic issues in this episode? Who keeps, like, licking the mic?

You know, I decided to listen to this one after a few months of not listening to 8-4 play... And was reminded why I stopped listening to 8-4 play. There's a weirdly smug dismissiveness of a lot of things discussed on in this podcast that I've started to find irritating. Well, that and the weird mouth noises.
